Report: Vinny Del Negro to interview for Nuggets job

The Nuggets have interviewed Brian Shaw and Lionel Hollins and were considered the landing spot for the guy who didn’t land the Clippers job (Doc Rivers threw a wrench in that plan for a while, but no longer).

However, the Nuggets are not going to sit around and just wait for everyone else to make a decision.

New GM Tim Connelly is going to meet with Vinny Del Negro over the weekend, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

Del Negro coached the Clippers to 56 wins and the Pacific Division title last season but was allowed to walk away when his contract expired. That led a lot of people to shake their heads but Del Negro was not loved in the locker room by the player nor by management, and there were questions about how far his coaching acumen could take the team.

The other thing is Del Negro likely comes at a somewhat cheaper price then Shaw or Hollins.

Nuggets fans, take a deep breath and relax. It is still likely that Shaw and Hollins divide up the Clippers and Nuggets jobs in some order, but apparently the Nuggets are still looking around.

The Nuggets were coached to 57 wins by George Karl, who was named NBA Coach of the Year, then was let go by the team 29 days later as part of a complete shakeup of the front office (some of which was forced upon the Nuggets as guys left).

So the nuggets fired George Karl just so they can hire someone like Del Negro? Stupid decision by the nuggets letting everyone on their staff go…

I’mma laugh so hard if Del Negro beats out poor Brian Shaw for the gig! Shaw can’t get NO breaks!
BTW, why would Del Negro come at a cheaper price tag then untested, unproven B Shaw? That was kinda interesting.

I thought the same thing. I suspect many other posters will too.

Because turrible is worse than unproven.

So you fire George Karl seemingly because he can’t get you over the hump and then target a guy like Vinny Del Negro?

    Bravo, Kroenke.

As a Nuggets fan, I’m really hoping for Shaw.

For funk’s sake, Kroenke! Don’t you dare.

It’s not going to be vinny, that is a courtesy interview. Would like to see Tim Connelly select Shaw, New young forward thinking gm taking a chance on another guy who given the opportunity to be the ice, is going to be great.

I wonder if Del Negro put Chris Paul on his resume as a reference?

Winning coaches playing musical chairs–I guess this is what happens when the players are holding all the cards. Why does anyone give a rat’s ass who Chris Paul or Dwight Howard wants to be coach?

Trading George Karl for Vinny Del Negro sounds like a great idea…said no one, ever.

The Bulls and Clipps improved under Vinny. Who’s pushing the narrative that he’s a terrible coach and why? Why do you all buy into that narrative?
