DeMarcus Cousins agent wants max extension this summer… or a trade

Is DeMarcus Cousins a max player?

There’s a new ownership regime in Sacramento and from owner Vivek Ranadive on through new coach Michael Malone everyone has talked about Cousins as a cornerstone of the franchise and part of their future.

But will they give him max money? Cousins is eligible for an extension to his rookie contract this summer and guess what he and his agent want? From the Sacramento Bee:

Cousins is eligible for a contract extension this summer, and Fegan wants a maximum deal for his client with the threat of a trade demand looming if a deal isn’t reached.

Cousins averaged 17.1 points and 9.9 rebounds a game last season, shooting a respectable 46.5 percent, with an All-Star level PER of 20.2. But the question with him has never been his talent or physical gifts, it’s his head that leads him to get frustrated at points, take silly fouls and technicals, and take himself out of the game more quickly than any opponent can. He has feuded with every pro coach he has had about his commitment to the team.

For the Kings, you need a superstar franchise anchor to build around, one worthy of a max contract. Are you going to find one better than Cousins?

    46.5% is respectable for a center?? I don’t know, but I think that’s a pretty atrocious FG% for a guy his size.

Not too bad when you take a bunch of mid-rangers like he does.

Trade him to the Spurs for splitter and bonner

I have one word for this:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

He will get it I don’t think he is worth it but the NBA hands out max contracts like there is no tomorrow. He is a head case but the kings are desperate and if they aren’t desperate enough a team like the bobcats would give it to him.

Trade him to the Spurs and be rid of the problem. They’ll gladly right his thinking and up his game.

I’m not sure even the Spurs could fix this idiot.

        Howabout Sloan with the Jazz?

Trade his punk a$$!! I bet you someone out there will pony up the dough though. This guy’s trippin if he thinks he’s worth max. He should pay the teams he’s on just to deal with him. What a headcase.

Send him to Hakeem’s camp to learn how to be a big man and a real man. Or send him to Mose Malone to have Mose kick the hell out of him to school the fool

He can be a nut but he too talented not give a 4/58 contract to. Wouldn’t mind Boogie in Dallas.

  8. 21stnprime - Jun 20, 2013 at 12:44 PM

trade him to cleveland for the first pick

    • 00maltliquor - Jun 20, 2013 at 2:20 PM

      Not a bad idea.

      • kinggw - Jun 20, 2013 at 3:32 PM

He’s worth a lot more than that.

    • badintent - Jun 21, 2013 at 11:44 PM

Good one. If he screws up, toss his butt in Toxic Lake Erie

Boogie must be really smoking something!!! Max money, ha!!!

I don’t think he is beyond repair. A coach with a veteran locker room will straighten him out. He wouldn’t/shouldn’t be getting max money, but he will get some good moolah.

The problem is where? Which team has the money (and the organizational maturity to straighten him out).
Could we see a Bosh-for-Cousins trade? Bosh is making ~ 17mil, Boogie got to be happy to see around 12-15 mil

This guy will be a nightmare scenario when he gets guaranteed money. I’ve seen so many players who had better attitudes than Cousins turn into locker from cancers and turn off their work ethic with guaranteed dollars and Cousins appears to be worse in terms of maturity, attitude and integrity than most of them.

Wouldn’t want to be the GM or coach that gives him that contract.

  11. sportsnut101 - Jun 20, 2013 at 3:06 PM

Trade him to cavs for tristian Thompson n the 19th pick

  12. JMClarkent - Jun 20, 2013 at 8:06 PM

That is a lot of money for Derrick Coleman 2.0.
