LeBron James takes over when headband comes off

Jun 19, 2013, 8:45 AM EDT

With the Heat season on the brink LeBron James needed to change things up…

He ditched the headband.

Not exactly ditched, but late in the game LeBron’s headband was knocked off — and then he went off. LeBron played a key stretch of the fourth quarter then all of overtime without it. Couper Moorehead of Heat.com tracked the numbers:

No-headband LeBron had 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block of Tim Duncan and 4 turnovers on 5-of-11 shooting. He saved the Heat season.

LeBron played desperate — as he should have, the Heat were about to be sent fishing — and while Chris Bosh with his rebound and Ray Allen with his three were key none of it happens without LeBron’s no headband run.

NBA players and others noticed as twitter went crazy.

It was amazing how LBJ looked 40yrs old w.o his headband on. Epic game tho.

    • silencegooddoer - Jun 19, 2013 at 12:22 PM

He looks much older without it for sure! He looks a lot more like the guy who he sued for saying he was his father now without the headband.

:::Mortal Combat Voice::: Finish Him. Heat in 7

    • spthegr8 - Jun 19, 2013 at 9:59 AM

Trying to figure out LeBron is such a head scratcher. He is the BEST in the WORLD and @ times he show’s it and imposes his will on you ( 4 qtr last night ) and their is nothing you can do to stop him. Then their are other times, when he will disappear like David Copperfield and hide in the corner wanting no part of the ball. Then when he get’s the ball he will defer too the likes of Chalmbers or Haslem or whoever is on the floor. I don’t get it???? If he get’s out of his OWN way. The guy is unstoppable!!

  3. HotHotHeat - Jun 19, 2013 at 9:10 AM

Will he wear it for game 7????

    • 1heatedtoombrayduh - Jun 19, 2013 at 9:15 AM

Find out next time on dragon ball z…

      • nowyouknow2000 - Jun 19, 2013 at 12:06 PM

Game 7 would take 5 episodes on DBZ.

  4. patfic15 - Jun 19, 2013 at 9:28 AM

I knew the media couldn’t wait to milk this …

  5. logisticalvoices - Jun 19, 2013 at 9:36 AM

I noticed that he also had more turnovers and airballs once it came off too. He’s lucky they won that game or he’d forever be remembered for the last two minutes of regulation.

    • runthepicketfence - Jun 19, 2013 at 10:35 AM

Amen brother. The last airball/wild pass move was just painful to watch. Still not sure what that was. As much as I hate the guy I felt terrible for him thinking about how that’s all everyone was going to be talking about after the Heat lose.

Then Kwami forgot how to shoot a free throw …

  6. nowyouknow2000 - Jun 19, 2013 at 9:48 AM

    Lincoln Hawk nods in approval.

Am I the only person here who has seen Over the Top? Tough crowd.

      • styleelements015 - Jun 19, 2013 at 2:50 PM

nope. this movie came up last night as well…awesome moment!

  7. pl4tinum514 - Jun 19, 2013 at 9:52 AM

So three unforced turnovers and 2 bricks in the final two minutes of the game and getting saved by a 500 year old Ray Allen is what you call “taking over?”

Sounds like classic Lebron choking to me.

  8. cantonbound13 - Jun 19, 2013 at 9:59 AM

Roid rage in full effect. Now I see why he wears a headband, the receding hairline for a 20 year old is a dead give away.

    • acharlot5 - Jun 19, 2013 at 10:18 AM

bro your an idiot.. just cuz lebron is a 6’8 250lb monster doesnt mean he takes roids.. people like him dont come around often..hes just a beast always has been.. the man has been in the league since he was 18 he trains with the best in the world anybody who does that will gain muscle mass.. theres no point of using roids in the NBA anyway thats more for sports such as football and baseball.. stop hating on the man and pay homage

    • Alex K - Jun 19, 2013 at 12:32 PM

As a guy who had a worse hairline than LeBron at 28 I can assure you that roids don’t have to be present for the hair to go that early.

    • bigrele - Jun 19, 2013 at 12:57 PM

Knickerbocker hata in full effect, got a life in full effect yet? Still mommies basement sniffling over yo Knicks? Knicks made any moves yet? They get Melo that other scoring option yet? How’s that salary cap looking playa hata? Don’t spill any milk on that playa hata degree now ya hear?! Lmao!

    • hehateme2 - Jun 19, 2013 at 1:46 PM

So… all you got is now to try to poke fun at his receding hairline? That’s pretty weak for you troll. So glad you’ve been exposed for the fraud you are.

      • cantonbound13 - Jun 19, 2013 at 1:51 PM

PED’s causing the receding hairline. I don’t think you’re smart enough to get that corellation

The bandwagoners have really out done themselves to prove to all of America what a joke they are. What an embarrassment!

    • styleelements015 - Jun 19, 2013 at 2:55 PM

This makes my day! If a troll ever sides with you or gives up, then the fun stops. People like you is what makes half the fun. Please KEEP IT UP. I go on this blog just to feel your LOVE FOR LEBRON. Trust me, the more you talk sh!t, the more happier I get. Don’t ever give up!!!!…….unless of course you’re referring to melo and the knick’s chances. that will never happen. :)

  10. golfrangeman - Jun 19, 2013 at 10:10 AM

    He’s 28 moron !!

  11. dadawg77 - Jun 19, 2013 at 10:25 AM

There was something else missing when the head band left, Wade. Every is talking about the headband and not how Wade almost cost them game when he came back.

The game came down to Pop making the same bad choice twice, Duncan would have gotten one of those boards.

Two, the Refs swallowing their whistles at the end unless they were expecting a foul.

Three, the Heat hitting second chance threes. See point one thou.

  12. broncobeta - Jun 19, 2013 at 10:35 AM

Remember when LeBron wasn’t clutch in the fourth quarter?

    • cantonbound13 - Jun 19, 2013 at 11:43 AM

Did you see the 2 turnovers & 2 missed shots with 1:20 left? Allen bailed him out from choking yet again.

  13. lastdukestreetking - Jun 19, 2013 at 10:39 AM

Refs swallowed their whistle on Giflopili’s 4-step stroll to the basket. Also on Splitter’s illegal moving screen to free Green on the last play.

  14. judsonjr - Jun 19, 2013 at 11:06 AM

No headband man also did the following in a 10 second span with 30 seconds left in the game.

    turnover bad pass (or shot?)
    turnover lost dribble
    3-pointer that didn’t hit rim

He can thank Ray Allen that the headline isn’t about him choking.

    • styleelements015 - Jun 19, 2013 at 3:00 PM

yeah and who was solely responsible for them being in that position? you totally know what you’re talking about. love fanatics like you. your heart is bigger than your brains…

18 pts, few dimes, a lovely block on Duncan and guarding Parker, all in the 4th…yeah cause MJ and Kobe hit every game winner or to tie it up.

  15. dolphindubs - Jun 19, 2013 at 12:06 PM

Duncan went 0-5 in the 4th and OT. Are you going to say he choked? Stay consistent

  16. steelerfanforlife - Jun 19, 2013 at 3:02 PM

I see Lebron decided to go with the Joel Anthony haircut!

  17. thenew013 - Jun 19, 2013 at 5:40 PM

it was definitely a spectacle to watch LeBron play a few minutes without his band. I doubt it helps or hurts him. Im sure he has heard every hairline joke in the book and i couldnt help but drop a few last night but what an awesome game.

  18. thechock305 - Jun 20, 2013 at 12:15 AM

Yeah because MAYBE 200 fans out 20000 that were there started to leave and that is what is representative of the entire fan base? God, what some people care about proves how sad their lives are. WHO CARES?!
