Victor Oladipo ducking his hometown Wizards?

Jun 17, 2013, 5:51 PM EDT

Victor Oladipo

Victor Oladipo has worked out for the Phoenix Suns. In Phoenix, he said he already worked out for the Orlando Magic and planned to work out for the Cleveland Cavaliers, though it’s not clear where those sessions occurred.

Oladipo is preparing for the NBA Draft in Bowie, Md., which is about 20 minutes outside Washington, D.C. Still, Oladipo won’t workout for the Wizards at the Verizon Center, according to Michael Lee of The Washington Post.

But Oladipo will allow the Wizards to come see him. J. Michael of CSN Washington:

Victor Oladipo declined to visit the Wizards for a workout recently, as CSN Washington first reported June 6, but they’re still going to evaluate him before the June 27 draft.

Oladipo, a 6-3 guard from Indiana, is working out in Bowie, Md. and the Wizards expect to visit him later this week or next, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to CSN.

Perhaps, Oladipo’s reasons for refusing to come to Washington are personal – he had a very complicated relationship with his father while growing up in the D.C. area – or professional – the Wizards already have Bradley Beal at shooting guard – or a combination of both.

It seems to me Oladipo would prefer to be drafted elsewhere, but if the Cavaliers (No. 1) and Magic (No. 2) go other directions, Washington (No. 3) would mean more money than the Suns (No. 5) or any other team drafting lower. If the Wizards covet him enough to jump through this relatively minor hoop, that could indicate to Oladipo that they might not be such a bad fit, after all.

I don’t understand the article about Oladipo and his father. So his dad wanted him to focus on academics or something? I don’t get it. Complicated is one way to describe, probably the most printable way.

If he is smart, he will avoid the Wizards and that AWFUL front office like he would a gold digging bimbo, that has a case of SCORCHING HERPES!!!

      • asimonetti88 - Jun 18, 2013 at 1:11 AM

Yeah, their front office is questionable. I was more commenting on his relationship with his father though, not necessarily on the Wiz.

Victors father wanted him to do martial arts and never came to see his son play basketball thats the deal between him and his dad!!

I would love to see the Pacers find a way to get him….strong defensively, huge athletic upside. I think he’s going to be really good, if he keeps working at it.

pass. wiz don’t need him. another bust waiting to happen

    • hannsta - Jun 17, 2013 at 11:43 PM

Unproven athletic ability and NBA body like Nerlen’s has a far higher bust potential than work ethic and hustle like Oladipo.

What a dummy head this dude worked harder than anybody in college…. Great athlete and the hardest worker I have seen in years and a humble guy! WORK ETHIC as long as he beleives he’s not the best he will keep growing!

Hahahah Knicks suck. But if your a yankees fan you must like the heat or lakers

    • fanofevilempire - Jun 18, 2013 at 6:51 AM

Really, the knicks suck and they got to second round.
I’m a Yankee fan and yes, I do like the Lakers and why
not root for the Heat, I don’t like the Spurs but they are good.
I know the Wizards suck, they should go back to being the Bullets.

Who wants o play for wizards John walla outta there soon

They are the kings east. Talent there but can’t do simple things

I like Beal n thunder missed out by trading harden for him straight up could of easily traded John wall for other pieces

  7. senorpapino - Jun 18, 2013 at 12:24 AM

I don’t think he needs to duck them because they already have Wall and Beal locked in as starters and he isn’t big enough to play the 3 in the NBA.

Hey Wizards, don’t make a mountain out of a mole hill. He’s working out 20 minutes from you guys. Jump in the mini van and ride over for a visit.

It’s probably 110% to do with the Wizards having Brad Beal.
