Anthony Bennett to visit No. 1 pick-holding Cavaliers

Kentucky’s Nerlens Noel is the consensus choice for the Cavaliers with No. 1 pick. Otto Porter, a polished small forward, is probably the best short-term fit.

Or the Cavaliers could go in a completely other direction, as they’ve made annual habit.

Dion Waiters (No. 4 in 2012) and Tristan Thompson (No. 4 in 2011) were the surprise picks of the top of the draft the last two years. The Cavaliers also went as expected with Kyrie Irving at No. 1 in 2011, but if they want to shake up the No. 1 pick this year, where would they turn?

UNLV power forward Anthony Bennett has scheduled his visit with the Cavaliers for Monday, his agent said on Thursday.

Bennett is injured and won’t workout on the court for Cleveland, so his opportunity to sway the Cavaliers is limited. He’s a good player, a forward with size and skills, but worthy of the No. 1 pick? I don’t see it.

I didn’t see the Waiters or Thompson picks coming, either, though. So, don’t completely rule out Cleveland falling in love with Bennett and drafting him No. 1, but in all likelihood, this is just due diligence that will end with Bennett getting picked in the middle of the lottery like most expect.
