Jimmy Kimmel asked Lakers fans how team will do in Finals

Jun 7, 2013, 8:44 PM EDT

And you wonder why we make fun of Lakers fans sometimes…

It’s not all of them, there are some great, smart Lakers fans out there. There is a real and passionate fan base. But man, some of the people on the fringes are… not really fans of the sport, to put it kindly. Or, not really very realistic. Or not really very smart.

Jimmy Kimmel went out and found those on the fringe, and asked them how the Lakers will do in these NBA Finals. I hope I don’t have to explain the joke to you.

Hat tip to The Big Lead.

Not all Lakers fans are like this, but…

    • erckle31 - Jun 7, 2013 at 9:33 PM

Yeah, people talk about Miami all the time…but I’m not gonna lie, we also have some disgraceful “fans.” The so-called fan culture that everyone talks about in Miami is very much prevalent in LA and it makes me angry sometimes but this is just hilarious. This is why I hate when people bash fan bases, because for every one of these “fans” there are always true fans up in the nose bleeds who will cheer on their team any day.

      >”Not all Lakers fans are like this, but…”

…but 43% of them think that Shaq is splitting time with Kareem at center, and think the Lakers have the best 1-2 guard combo in the league with Magic and Nash playing together.

Fantastic !! PBT comment of the week ! give my regards to James Worthy starting at small forward and Kurt Ramblis at the power.

      • topdawg4ever - Jun 8, 2013 at 3:07 PM

And didn’t you hear? The Lakers signed Jason Kidd and Grant Hill!

this has to be fake and scripted lmao. i am a die hard lakers fan but there are alot of la fans that annoy me. i hate fake fans

  3. sellahh - Jun 7, 2013 at 9:01 PM

my laundry dried from this clip, wow
    couldnt look more staged

    • explosionsauce - Jun 8, 2013 at 10:09 AM

It’s amazing to me how many people, including the writer think these interviews aren’t dubbed over for comedic value. The biggest joke are the people who post articles about it. Don’t worry Kurt bleacher report did it too.

  4. paulhargis53 - Jun 7, 2013 at 9:29 PM

Those fans on the fringe all congregate here. Although its been nice with the worst of them not posting since the lakers were swept out of the playoffs…

1-12 in the playoff ending series the last 3 years with TWO sweeps!! Laughable.

Miami….control your fans or this is your future! Stay strong….and knowledgeable.

    • aboogy123456 - Jun 8, 2013 at 4:04 PM

      These people aren’t laker fans…

  6. football58 - Jun 7, 2013 at 10:33 PM

Idiot article by an idiot writer. You know they did play back the 99% of fans who call Kimmel an idiot for asking the question.

  7. skol22 - Jun 7, 2013 at 11:09 PM

All teams have these so called “fans”. But Miami Heat fans have to bet the worst.

    • biasedhomer - Jun 7, 2013 at 11:21 PM

While all teams have them, some more so than others, and it just so happens Miami and LA are at the top of that list.

      • skol22 - Jun 8, 2013 at 2:11 AM

Believe me I know. All the more fun when the Spurs knocked them out. Go Spurs Go!

  8. badintent - Jun 7, 2013 at 11:10 PM

Jimmel stole a page out of Len’s book from his “Jay walking ” clips. But Jimmel is more sarcastic than Leno. Especially with Cuz Sal.

  9. explosionsauce - Jun 7, 2013 at 11:49 PM

Wow, I’m embarrassed for you. You do realize those interviews are doctored?

But just out of curiosity PBT, thumbs up if you think they are fake and down if you think they are real.

“Everybody can be eliminated and come back, as long as they get their act together.” Classic. Sad thing is you can totally imagine that same line coming out of the mouths of half of the talking heads who blather on during the pregame and halftime segments.

  11. teambringitstrong - Jun 8, 2013 at 8:17 AM

I was at this so called survey, It was actually staged. Sorry to upset the apple cart but LA is a basketball city and its fans are knowledgeable. Stick to actual facts before you become a bossip site.

  12. afirst916 - Jun 8, 2013 at 9:16 AM

For the next video, ask Heat fans if they thing they’ll win the World Series. Or just what time the game starts.

    • badintent - Jun 10, 2013 at 1:16 AM

ASk the Heat “bimbo “fans if there is a sale at Versace. They’ll really know the answer to that .

  13. tampajoey - Jun 8, 2013 at 10:07 AM

It’s real funny when it’s basketball but it’s not very funny when these same low informed people vote in the Presidential election. No wonder the country is so screwed up.

    Go Spurs!

    • stadix093 - Jun 8, 2013 at 2:52 PM

Ah man lets keep it basketball. If you don’t like the country you can always leave.

      • raidmagic - Jun 8, 2013 at 4:06 PM

You can like/love your country and still want to see change in it but yes, you are right, keep it to basketball

  14. aboogy123456 - Jun 8, 2013 at 3:58 PM

These are just random people on the street, none of them are actually basketball fans, they just want to talk to the reporter and be on TV. A lot of people on this site bash laker fans like myself, but not one of these people would read a basketball site or even pretend to care about the lakers when not asked about it.

  15. slystone111 - Jun 8, 2013 at 4:13 PM

Because the BEST way to find Los Angelinos to interview is to choose random people on Hollywood Boulevard–a place the exists solely for TOURISTS to visit.
