Memphis Grizzlies have new anthem: “We Don’t Bluff”

May 17, 2013, 2:28 PM EDT

It was a throwaway line Zach Randolph said himself after a physical game early in the season against the Thunder and Kendrick Perkins, “I don’t bluff.”

My first thought when I heard it was “wish I was playing poker against him.” But the line caught on to describe the them, and it’s now the chorus of a new anthem for the team from rapper Drumma Boy and Three 6 Mafia co-founder DJ Paul.

As my man Lang Whitaker at NBA.com’s All Ball blog points out, there is a great double meaning here because Memphis is nicknamed The Bluff City (because it sits on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River).

Frankly, this is great. I like it. And if Memphis can get past the Spurs to the finals, we are all going to be hearing this a lot.

Well get ready too hear it A LOT then!!! Grizz in 6. They match-up good with the Spurs and lets not forget what happened last time they played the Spurs in the Playoffs???? Z-Bo & Gasol are gonna dominate the paint and control the glass. It’s what they do!!!

Nice. While Kurt is right that sometimes bluffing is advantageous, it’s still a cool anthem because it fits their grind-it-out style of “We don’t need to bluff because we’re not at a disadvantage.”

The Grizzlies are favored over the Spurs in this next series (probably because if the Golden State Warriors defense can slow down the offense of the Spurs, the Grizzlies can probably shut it down), so this really is a great chance for the Grizzlies to make the Finals.

Once there, the Grizzlies would either face two of the best small-ball teams in the NBA (Heat and Knicks) or they face their Eastern Conference counterpart (Pacers). It should be interesting to watch.

First “Whoop That Clip!” and now this…Fannnnstastic!

The quote came about in a regular season MEM-OKC game when Z-Bo and Perkins got into it. After the game, they asked Zach about it and he said, in essence, “There’s a lot of bluffin’ on the court. And I don’t bluff”. He was basically calling out Perk as all scowl and no fight (which we ALL know is 100% true).

Regardless, this is a great motto for our city because, while we’re more than happy to bluff when it comes to poker, we’re not gonna back down from a fight. So bring on CP3 (watching at home w/ Cliff Paul), or Perkins (scowling on his couch), or Tim Duncan (will need his knees re-spun in Germany after this series) or Lebron. We won’t back down from anyone, ’cause We Don’t Bluff.

Of course Perkins is all bark, no bite… he learned from the best, Kevin Garnett.

Meanwhile, Tim Duncan puts on his poker face.

Tim Duncan better lace up his Nike cause Z-Bo is coming to Texas!

The Grizzlies might not win it all, but they wont be an easy out for anyone.

yeah, they will give you a run, they are tough down low.

The grizz are great this year but, that is one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard. I mean horrible. They deserve a much better anthem than that
