Video proof Kyrie Irving can pretty much own a college pickup game

Apr 30, 2013, 3:31 PM EDT

Monday afternoon Kyrie Irving wanted to play a little pickup ball, so he strolled into the gym at Montclair State University in Jersey.

Yes, he was the best player on the court. Give a couple of those defenders credit for cutting off his baseline drives, but like many an NBA defender discovered if you do that Irving just steps back and takes a rainbow jumper that splashes the net. You’ve got to love that this stuff just gets taped and ends up on YouTube now.

Thanks to Lang at All Ball for finding this.

Snooze fest. This video isn’t entertaining at all. Kyrie is my guy though and I’m a die hard Cavs fan but I wanna see him play Kobe when he gets healthy.

Love this kid. I watch more Cavs games now than I did when Lebron was there….

Any video of Kyrie playing defense? Mike Brown is coming to make sure he does.

Heck Kyrie played harder here than he did in the last month of the season. This video is Uncle Drew in the pepsi commercial.

Stop lying.. you know you watch every Lebron game you can.. he was the only reason to watch Cavs games until Kyrie came.. you may Hate Lebron now but don’t go making up sh_t

I’ve been saying this for a while now: In a pickup game, I would love to play with either Nate Robinson or Dr. K.

And I feel bad for the same two guys who tried to check him.

Feel sorry for the guys guarding him…why? How often will you ever say you got to go up against one of the best on the PLANET at ANYTHING?

Imagine a college Cb getting a few downs to check Megatron, or a highschool kid trying to pitch your best stuff to Upton, or a young MMA guy going a round with Jon Jones…. maybe not that one..

Of course they wouldnt stop him they knew that going in but thats probably the highlight of their year.

    Did anyone think he couldn’t?

Really respect this cat. Down to earth and will give anybody the business on the court.

Chris Duhon doesn’t see what the big deal is.

He was toying with them, he could have taken it to the rim every time if he wanted. Still a cool experience for the guys who played him. Wish NBA players came to my gym to play pickup.

Love Kyrie, but was I the only one thinking “pass the freaking ball, man!”

    • mogogo1 - May 1, 2013 at 5:34 PM

Ever consider they edited this just to show Kyrie? Or do you think the entire pickup game took 3 minutes with every possession starting with him having the ball on the wing?

      • mytthor - May 2, 2013 at 3:49 AM

So he never had a sweet dime that they could show?

Amazing what good shooting can do on a basketball court. For all the lobs, dunks, spins and crossovers, when you can drop jumpers from anywhere on the floor, you have the difference between crowd noise on the street and a paycheck…

    Uncle Drew…he gets buckets.

Are those college players or just random kids in a gym? Like could he come to my campus and play me lol?
