J.R. Smith suspended one game for elbow he landed to the face of Jason Terry

Apr 27, 2013, 11:28 PM EDT

If the Knicks are going to complete their sweep of the Celtics on Sunday, they’ll have to do it without Sixth Man of the Year J.R. Smith.

Smith has been suspended one game without pay for throwing an elbow and striking the chin of Jason Terry late in New York’s Game 3 win in Boston, the league announced on Saturday.

Smith was assessed a flagrant two foul (with comes with it an automatic ejection) for his actions at the time, so clearly the league office viewed the play as malicious and intentional if they’re following it up with a suspension.

    #knick haters

    • andrewproughcfe - Apr 28, 2013 at 12:38 AM

Stupid suspension. Terry should have been tagged for flopping. Instead, the league is going to reward him.

      • andyhr17 - Apr 28, 2013 at 9:58 AM

It was reviewed. It was not a flop. Stop being delusional.

Shades of 1997 vs. Miami all over again lmao.

    • badintent - Apr 28, 2013 at 12:13 AM

yeah, always some little rat /cockroach to have a chip on his shoulder
      Terry=Jeff Van Weasel

  3. rickyspanish - Apr 28, 2013 at 12:04 AM

That’s pretty lame. But it’s not like the Knicks will need him to close out Boston.

  4. eboneseagles - Apr 28, 2013 at 12:14 AM

Won’t matter, he better not pull this stuff against Miami though. Copeland will just get his shots and do fine.

  5. badintent - Apr 28, 2013 at 12:16 AM

J,R, didn’t get his $$ worth. Time to have Camby Honey Nutt KG !

    • swill881 - Apr 28, 2013 at 12:21 AM

      Grow up.

    • eboneseagles - Apr 28, 2013 at 12:23 AM

What are you even attempting to say?

      • jimeejohnson - Apr 28, 2013 at 12:38 PM

Whatever it was there was “bad intent”!

      • badintent - Apr 28, 2013 at 10:15 PM

I’m saying it was Doc that put Tery up to talking trash at J.R.( just like KG did several months ago with Melo about his” Honey Nutt”)
Typical play ground head game , you can’t ball with someone, so start a fight to take him off his gameOt get thrown out..
So I want Camby, who will get few minutes to talk some nasty trash at KG to get him off his game or provoke him to a fight and get both thrown out. Yes this does happpen , iit’s called using a scrub like Terry to get a star out of t he game. Been happening since the peach baskets were put up.
        Class Dismissed

    • Mr. Wright 212 - Apr 28, 2013 at 1:32 PM

I agree, should have decked that clown, but then again, Terry had about a half dozen guys in between him.

Doc talking trash is hilarious. JR would have duffed you in your prime ALSO.

      • infectorman - Apr 28, 2013 at 7:07 PM

Smith is a pu$$y. Couldn’t get out of there fast enough.

        Cheap shot extraordinaire

  6. gertrudegoat - Apr 28, 2013 at 1:06 AM

As a Knicks fan I’ll miss JR. But he deserves the suspension. Although he has much talent, he’s immature & lacks class.

  8. adoombray - Apr 28, 2013 at 3:48 AM

That wasn’t a flagrant 2, that’s definitely not a suspension, and should be a Terry flop warning. That was a basketball move against somebody playing it too tight. They dropped the hammer because a) its J.R. Smith and his reputation is controversial at best and b) it’s easy to send a message to one of the marquee franchises in the league when they are on their way to a 4 game sweep. If the series was competetive, or if this was some white guy with a European name, there’s no way it’s a suspension. (and please don’t lump me with the Knicks guys above, I cheer against NYC teams in every sport, but calling this a suspendable play can only be done from a place of bias)

Plus, Terry has had no impact on the series or the Celtics at all this season especially since Rondo went down, the series is already over and Boston is playing like it, and it wasn’t even what i’d call a chippy game (no more so than any other NY / Bos game). The refs didn’t even have a reason to need to assert control, the Celtics have been mailing it in since about midway through game 2.

punk move from a punk team. Can’t wait to watch Miami sweep out the knick trash . Beating this Celtics team is nothing.

    • fanofevilempire - Apr 28, 2013 at 6:57 AM

skins suck, and that is a racists nickname, loser!

      • jimeejohnson - Apr 28, 2013 at 12:39 PM

        Two words: RG 3

      • theskinsman - Apr 29, 2013 at 4:37 AM

Glad it offends you. Knicks are going nowhere,I doubt they win a game against Miami.

      • theskinsman - Apr 29, 2013 at 4:40 AM

Awww.poor little boy still crying over the NJ Giants playoff performance last, wait, they didn’t make the playoffs…

  10. halfbaht - Apr 28, 2013 at 7:18 AM

Deserved one game ban atleast. Not going to make a difference in the series against an under strength celtics. Knicks won’t get past the Pacers anyway

    • badintent - Apr 29, 2013 at 9:40 PM

Hawks up 10 , tie up series 2-2. Maybe your Pacers don’t get to play the Knicks or anyone.J-so smoooooooooooth

  11. eboneseagles - Apr 28, 2013 at 7:59 AM

Considering how overmatched the pacers looked last night against the lowly hawks, I have no idea how you can actually believe that. Pacers have no offense, their best player averages less points than our 2nd best scorer.

  12. kobeluver - Apr 28, 2013 at 8:40 AM

I never thought I’d say this, but if the Knicks wind up playing the Heat, I’m rooting for Miami.

You Knicks fans are obnoxious ad they come, and not very smart.

    • kavika6 - Apr 28, 2013 at 10:04 AM

Hard decision, they’re the two worst punk teams in the NBA. Miami is worse though, I’ll root for NY.

    • HotHotHeat - Apr 28, 2013 at 10:07 AM

You are not alone. For a team that hasn’t done anything in a decade you’d think they were going for a 3-peat the way some of the Knicks fans are acting.

      • Mr. Wright 212 - Apr 28, 2013 at 1:35 PM

You would think the Heat have actually won a title in an 82 game season with the way you clowns talk.

      • jimmymarlinsfan - Apr 28, 2013 at 2:00 PM

Well said hothot, mr wright, a title is a title is a title. You telling me Melo wouldn’t bend over backwards and do a Lindsey Lohan crab walk for the title last year?

I mean this is besides the point that Melo will have to bend over backwards, do a Lindsey Lohan crab walk and join the Miami Heat to win a title

    • jimeejohnson - Apr 28, 2013 at 12:50 PM

Yet it was some Los Angeles punks who beat Brian Stow so badly after he was already down that Stow suffered brain damage. There’s some idiot Lakers fan who constantly reminds everyone that the Lakers only play for championships. I’m fairly certain he’s a lying sac of doo doo!

    • badintent - Apr 28, 2013 at 10:18 PM

yo Paulie, use your real Handle on this blog, save the kobeluver crap for your Laker boyfriends. And by the way, New York sent a ton of cops to Boston to help catch that vermin scum that attacked Boston. So STFU !

  13. vilelabyrinth - Apr 28, 2013 at 9:48 AM

he did throw an elbow, Terry made it look worse than it..oh well, don’t need to beat that lame team from boston.

  14. vilelabyrinth - Apr 28, 2013 at 9:48 AM

  15. xLith - Apr 28, 2013 at 10:37 AM

Guy is a stupid thug. Deserves it and I hate the Celtics.

  16. dysraw1 - Apr 28, 2013 at 11:34 AM

preconceived notions are already drawn about you Smitty so be on your p’s &q’s

  17. mazblast - Apr 28, 2013 at 11:59 AM

Clearly intentional, clearly a flagrant, clearly deserving of a suspension. And I’m rooting for the Knicks in this series.

  18. jimeejohnson - Apr 28, 2013 at 12:42 PM

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree: J.R. Smith’s mom and sister threw many elbows at fans of J.R.’s rival teams in China. They also refused to use chopsticks!

  19. raiderinvader - Apr 28, 2013 at 12:47 PM

Celtics. are clowns.just mad because their all washed up and the Knicks are obviously in a class above them

  20. Mr. Wright 212 - Apr 28, 2013 at 1:33 PM

All these Heat fans thumbing things down, and hoping JR is getting suspended vs. IND because they are SHOOK worrying about the Knicks.

    • jimmymarlinsfan - Apr 28, 2013 at 2:02 PM

      Lololololololololo @ you.

  21. infectorman - Apr 28, 2013 at 7:09 PM

    Melo is a Lebron Wannabe.

    10 for 35? over—->ra ted!

    • badintent - Apr 28, 2013 at 10:21 PM
