Today on PBT Extra the amazing Kay Adams and myself are taking a look at the first round of the NBA playoffs. This is your Western Conference preview (the East can be found right here).

Out West there’s a lot of people in Los Angeles who think the Lakers have a shot against the Spurs, but that’s only the case if the Spurs are really banged up. The Thunder and Rockets are going to be an entertaining series, but that’s a bad matchup for the Rockets, getting out and running against the athletic Thunder.

The Nuggets vs. Warriors is going to be the most entertaining first round series in either conference, but the Nuggets have too much. Then we get to the single best first round series — Clippers vs. Grizzlies. Last year the Clippers won Game 7 in Memphis, this year I think the Grizzlies return the favor.

Let’s place a gentleman’s bet on that Kurt. Clippers 4-2 period. You win I stop posting, I win you make a blog of how terribly incorrect you were. Seems fair to me. Doubt you have the gumption to take the bet or even post this. We shall see.

I think this series is close, and the most interesting in the first round. I just like the Grizzlies a little better. Look, I am wrong sometimes, a couple years ago I picked against Dallas in every round. It happens. Anyone who has to make predictions is wrong sometimes. But my role here is to be the guy making predictions.

    That’s what I thought Kurt.

kurt is doing his job…and i’m sure if kurt somehow had the insight to pick the winner each time, he would be living in Vegas with cigar and scotch in hand than entertaining schmucks like us.

jerkdog, it isn’t like you wouldn’t just change your log in and be right back. So, even if Kurt were to take you up on it, you wouldn’t live up to it. Your bet is BS.

As Kurt mentioned, it is his job to make predictions. Every sport has people making predictions before the season, before the playoffs, etc. Most are wrong. It is the nature of the business.

Sorry, but the Spurs ARE really banged up. Parker isnt him self, Ginoble might be back, but probably wont be him self either, Diaw is out and Leonard cant step up. From those who can make a difference, only Spur who is up for the task is ageless Duncan.

If you compare overal season record – sure, the Spurs are way better, but does wins in november make them the better team today? Spurs are on terrible stretch right now and for obvious reasons. Although Lakers are without Kobe, they have implemented pick’n’roll defence wich kind of works on some nights and theyre bigs are looking much better lately.

^ Good for the Lakers for making it to the playoffs but they aren’t good enough to beat the Spurs system, sorry. They aren’t THAT banged up.

    • justaride88 - Apr 19, 2013 at 3:28 AM

You’re right. Spurs system has never crushed and burnt in playofs before. At least never against inside oriented teams like Memphis.

Spurs definitely are favorits, but it’s far from your usual 2nd against 7th seed near sweap blow out, it will be way more fun than that.
