Game highlights from newly minted Hall of Famer Gary Payton (VIDEO)

Apr 9, 2013, 8:41 AM EDT

Gary Payton was a no-brainer Hall of Fame pick… yet this is the Hall of Fame selection process we are talking about so there was some concern until it became official. Which it did on Monday.

Some of our younger readers may not have seen “The Glove” in game action, so here is a short highlight compilation courtesy This really doesn’t do justice to his impact on the game, but it is fun to  watch. So enjoy.

    Ah, that was good.

Can’t wait to get a team back in town, one way or another…Also good to hear Kevin Calabro’s voice – one of the best announcers out there…

CP3 and Blake Griffin of the 90’s

Neither are remotely on the same level as the two Sonics greats….

I grew up in Seattle during his career and my friends and I used to break into the Coliseum on a regular basis to see games when we were in high school. It was a privilege to be able to see him and Kemp play together. Absolutely beautiful when we had George Karl and the Sonics were competing in the finals. That Nuggets series still breaks my heart to this day.

Except Kemp had an all around game. All Griffin can do is dunk.

And Paul is a terrible defender. Gary Payton, Joe Dumars, Latrell Sprewell, Alvin Robertson and Sidney Moncrief were the five best backcourt defenders (other than Jordan) from my generation (’85-’05).

I think the best comment I ever heard from the play-by-play guy was “Look at Payton! He’s double teaming him by himself!”
