Celtics not exactly sympathetic after Courtney Lee has to be carried off the floor following ankle sprain

Mar 23, 2013, 2:00 PM EDT

With under two minutes to play in Dallas on Friday, the Celtics had cut a 12-point fourth quarter deficit down to just five. But an unfortunately-timed injury to Courtney Lee allowed the Mavericks a possession that ended with a wide-open three-pointer from O.J. Mayo, which pushed the lead back to eight and essentially sealed the victory for Dallas.

Lee was down for quite some time, after suffering an ankle sprain that required him to be carried off the floor by two of his teammates.

That’s as far as the sympathy went, however, as both Doc Rivers and Jason Terry weren’t exactly pleased that Lee’s injury prevented him from competing on that critical possession.

“I was hoping he could get up because we needed him to get up,” Rivers said, via A. Sherrod Blakely of “It was the damnedest play. You’re making a run, you’re down five and you got a guy laying on the floor. It felt like it took 40 seconds.”

Terry was far more critical, and his remarks can be seen near the end of the video clip above.

“Get your ass up,” was Terry’s thought. “If your bone ain’t sticking out of there, I don’t know. I don’t know how he’s feeling right now, but I mean, we were trying to win the game.”

Lee said afterward that the pain had subsided, to the point where he was hopeful he may even be able to play in his team’s very next game. That won’t go very far in helping his case with Rivers or Terry, who obviously weren’t happy with Lee for staying down so long with the game hanging in the balance.

“I love us, I love the way we’re built. We miss Rondo, we miss Sullinger, but with this team we have, we have a chance.” -Jason Terry

Yeah, this sounds like a team coming together at the right time. Shut your mouth JET and accept that the Miami Heat are going to wipe the floor with your sorry @sses… if you even make it that far.

Remember when Paul Pierce had to be carried off the court and then he came back running onto the court 5 min later?

Doc thinks he’s a real doctor, wtf? How in the hell could he tell how severe it was from looking at it? Does he feel Courtneys pain too, like siamese twins? C’mon Doc, thats turrible jsut plain ol’ turrible!

Makes me wonder if these guys are used to seeing Lee sit out portions of practice with “inuries” or something. I can’t think of the last time I saw a coach and player question a teammate’s tougness like that after a guy turns an ankle. Obviously, they think he is sitting for pain they believe he is capable of fighting through.

I’m not surprised at Doc’s comment.

Remember when Big Baby Davis got rocked by Dwight’s elbow in the playoffs a few years ago? Davis had rubber legs and was stumbling and you can see Doc telling Davis to get down the floor when it was obvious Davis was in no condition to do so.

What a great teammate Jason Terry is turning out to be… No wonder why Dallas didn’t resign him.

Has doc or terry ever turned an ankle?!?

I have and you go down fast and stay down. The pain is very bad, the last thing your mind and body want to do is put weight on it.
Maybe the celtics should of fouled someone to stop the play….

celtics gonna beat the heat this play-off…

Paul “I’m not surprised he got stabbed” Pierce does this crap a lot. He will go down get carried off in a WHEELCHAIR, and then be fine a few minutes later. Don’t soccer players do this stuff?

He earned the name Paula Pierce by the shear size of his vagina alone, never mind how often he cries. As for Jason Terry…Doc and Danny are wishing they knew how to shut up a jet. Rex Ryan offered to put his foot in his mouth I hear
