Jason Kidd could retire after this season

Jason Kidd turns 40 on Saturday. Carmelo Anthony nicknamed him “middle age.”

The 18-year veteran and future Hall of Famer is coming off the bench for the Knicks but still plays a key role — 27 minutes a game, spacing the floor and giving them 6.6 points and some savvy, veteran play. The Knicks play smarter when he is on the floor.

But after this, his 19th NBA season, he may retire, reports the New York Daily News.
.

Kidd, however, is not ready to commit beyond this season. Although he signed a three-year contract with the Knicks last summer, he isn’t ruling out retirement at season’s end. Several people close to Kidd have said they wouldn’t be surprised if Kidd, now a backup for the first time in his Hall of Fame career, decides to walk away.

“I don’t know,” Kidd told the Daily News. “I’m taking it one year at a time.”

He still has value on an NBA court; the question is does he want to deal with the grind anymore? That’s a question only he can answer this summer.

His NBA career will end with him in the Hall of Fame — he’s a champion (2011 Dallas Mavericks), a 10-time All-Star, he has 107 triple-doubles and is a guy who was arguably the best point guard of his generation.

The question is has his generation moved on from the Association.
