DeMarcus Cousins had angry words for Kings announcer

Mar 20, 2013, 12:48 PM EDT

DeMarcus Cousins AP

DeMarcus Cousins needs to develop a thicker skin. Soon.

The Kings picked up one of their better wins of the year Tuesday, dominating the fourth quarter to knock off the Clippers. In a season filled with losses on the court and bigger concerns off it, this was the kind of game the Kings and their fans could use.

How did Cousin’s celebrate? By going over and using a few choice words to Kings play-by-play television guy (and Sacramento area radio host) Grant Napear. Because Napear had dared to be critical of Cousins on his radio show a good amount lately, according to Sactown Royalty .

The Sacramento Bee has a good account of what went down.

Cousins had some choice words for Kings TV play-by-play man Grant Napear as he left the court while the telecast was still live.

When asked if he wanted to comment on it, Cousins laughed.

“No,” Cousins said. “It’ll give him something to talk about tomorrow. Tune in.”

The buzz on twitter from people at the game was that it was more like a few choice curse words mixed in with a suggestion for what Napear should talk about.

To his credit, Napear took the high road on twitter.

I hate to sound all parental but…

Cousins needs to grow up — you’re in the public spotlight, people are going to say things about you that you don’t like. That you think are wrong or unfair. It needs to roll off you like water off a duck’s back. Stop elbowing guys in the head or shoving guys in the face or  going after announcers.

Going through life taking offense at or worrying about what people say about you is going to make it a miserable experience. He’s paid well, and soon will get paid a lot more, to play basketball. To get the perks of an NBA lifestyle. Stop being concerned about what everybody else thinks about you, take care of yourself and your game. Then the rest of it will take care of itself.

Question for the day: How to develop thicker skin?

      Turn off your ears?!

Yet here we are talking a out about the media let it go..from what we’ve seen it wasn’t the “confrontation” it’s being made out to be

    • louhudson23 - Mar 20, 2013 at 1:10 PM

“Let(ting) it go” is how we got here in the first place….

  3. bjerkrulez - Mar 20, 2013 at 1:23 PM

what a douche! the kings were more respectable with cwebb and company..this psycho is really messing things up on how fans picture the kings (and to think he may be their only ‘gulp’ franchise player)

  4. jacobstevens20 - Mar 20, 2013 at 1:24 PM

    oh my god, seriously?

    this is pathetic.

i saw this game, i saw when cousins went over and tapped the table and said something to him, i thought it was funny

he was clearly just being a smartass after they won against one of the best teams in the league

people like you who write articles like this over the most trivial stuff is so pathetic.

    utterly pathetic.

This guy is just a big baby. He needs to start acting like a man instead of “the man”. Sombody give him a rattle to shake.

  6. dirtydavis - Mar 20, 2013 at 1:54 PM

    D. Cousins needs to shred that bad reputation. Only solution I can think of is to face the music. How? He can begin by going on this Grant Napear guy show. I just hope it wont be another Jim Rome & Jim Everette situation

  7. reasonableperson1 - Mar 20, 2013 at 2:15 PM

He is such a jerk, I just want him gone from the NBA. Gee I wonder how the story will end up, let me guess, a talented player who will never live up to his potential, who will be bankrupt in 6 years. Would anyone be surprised? And a bully like him doesn’t deserve any better.

I’m surprised by this behavior. Coach Cal does such a fine job of molding young boys into men.

This guy is an absolute knuckle head. Cousins that is.

Saying something to someone for continually having negative comments about you should be ok. He didn’t threaten him or anything. Those two can handle themselves. No need for everyone to be so protective of hosts and commentators like their lives are threatened.

    • bdeviled11 - Mar 20, 2013 at 11:00 PM

There is also a time and a place to have such a confrontation. D. Cousins is continually showing very very poor judgement.

    • realfootballfan - Mar 20, 2013 at 11:43 PM

I know, Napear is a negative tool if I ever heard one from the few times I’ve been unfortunate enough to be in Sacramento to hear his drivel. He hates everything except the Yankees and the stuff the Kings tell him to like.

Cousins is a prima donna….I’m shocked. So was Michael Jordan, so was Charles Barkley, etc. Maybe if his team didn’t suck so badly and Napear weren’t parroting the company line, which is really what he’s doing for people who hate Cousins unable to speak out from inside the organization, he’d have been ranting on why Geoff Petrie continues to be employed despite not putting a winning team on the court for a decade. Not to mention the circus disaster the owners turned the franchise into with the moving/not moving, selling/ not selling rumors over the last five.

One day, Demarcus will be a big boy. One day.

Every time this halfwit pulls a stunt like this his stock falls more. Just costing himself more coin as more teams will be put off.

    • dko83 - Mar 20, 2013 at 4:45 PM

This is the NBA, skilled big men get top dollar no matter how retarded they are.. e.g. Bynum.

      • cmehustle - Mar 20, 2013 at 4:49 PM

        True, True.

      • dirtydavis - Mar 20, 2013 at 8:45 PM

Well said dko83.. A couple seasons agoKwame Brown signed a 2 yr contract with 76ers worth atleast 10mil

    • realfootballfan - Mar 20, 2013 at 11:50 PM

Yea, that’s why the Celtics and other perennial playoff teams were falling all over themselves to trade for him. Maybe wonder what in the world’s going on in Sacramento to let a GM keep his job 10 years not even being close to the playoffs.

I don’t care who you can think of who was great in that league, if they arrived at the disaster that the Kings have been since Cousins has been in the league, they would have wigged out. Maybe Cousins isn’t the problem since he did come from a winning pedigree in college and seems to have a big issue with all the losing he’s been subjected to in Sacramento.

Cousins says ‘Anger management? I don’t need no f’ing anger management!’ :-)

  14. dirtydavis - Mar 20, 2013 at 8:45 PM
