Agreed. He sounds like a novice just regurgitating what he’s “heard” from other analyst and writers. There are so many variables that come into play. Shooter, play, time, personnel.

2. The biggest mistake most of these 2nd and 3rd tier coaches like Casey make is NOT PRACTICING fouling. They act as if fouling before a guy can get into the act of shooting but after allowing enough time to run off the clock is a commodity. It is NOT. It is a skill. Casey is to blame because I guarantee that this is not something they practice.

If you watch the play. Kobe broke away for a millisecond and the first thing he did when he caught it was pump fake. You can’t foul someone that you think is in the act of shooting because then it becomes 3 free throws to tie the game if not a 4 point play.

Credit the Lakers for getting Kobe the ball in a catch and shoot scoring position. Kobe gave a pump fake and one of the defenders went for it then he shot it over Rudy Gay. IMO credit Kobe and the Lakers for creating a situation where they couldn’t smartly foul right away.
