Renaldo Balkman loses it, chokes teammate in Philippines game (VIDEO)

Mar 8, 2013, 11:27 AM EDT

UPDATE 1:35 pm: Renaldo Balkman has issued a public apology.

11:27 am: If you were wondering what happened to former Knick and Nugget Renaldo Balkman (he was released by the Knicks to make room for J.R. Smith on the roster when Smith returned from China), the answer is he is playing in the Philippines.

Actually, might want to make that was playing in the Philippines, because you got to think he got let go after this tirade where he pushes and chokes teammates who are trying to keep him away from the referee. Actually stay away from the third referee he went to talk to about a call he didn’t like at the end of the game.

Thanks to The Big Lead and LosThatSportsBlog for finding the video.

what the hell was wrong with him, guy pushing Refs, coaches players, peole from the stands that are trying to help. Good luck getting back to the NBA after this video

He better have taken that to the Phillipines, he would’ve gotten his ass whooped here in the states acting like that. Punk ass dude for that.

My all-time favorite Chapelle skit! Wayne Brady makes Bryant Gumbel look like Malcom X!

      Thanks for that one SP!!

    @spthegr8- hahaYES thank you.

I’ve always liked Balkman and actually spent some time with him on summer, but this is just unacceptable. I can’t see him getting back in the nba now, which sucks because I was hoping someone would give him another shot.

  5. pukpokito - Mar 8, 2013 at 12:07 PM

He didn’t think the NBA and the basketball world will see this? They were on a winning streak too and just had a bad night.Well..I guess he didn’t care for all that anyway. As the Dean said, there are are some vent up frustration there.

He better sleep with one eye open. In the Phillipines they have big machetes and chop coconuts, street criminals and other melons into slices

    He sucks who cares

I think the obvious question has to be…. Alaska has a basketball team?!

    • jimbo75025 - Mar 8, 2013 at 12:29 PM

Alaska is a brand name for (boxed) milk in the Philippines so I would wager they are the sponsor of the team.

    Another soon-to-be-unemployed-player…what a jerk

  10. earpaniac - Mar 8, 2013 at 1:11 PM

That was just disgusting. His teammates were just trying to help the guy, as you’ve seen 100’s of other players do. What an idiot. Good luck getting back in the NBA after that.

  11. slippyal2 - Mar 8, 2013 at 2:29 PM

Can we get Latrell Sprewell’s opinion on Balkman’s technique?

  12. albertmn - Mar 8, 2013 at 2:34 PM

What did the refs call? He appeared to travel. If he was mad they called a travel, he is too ingrained with the NBA letting 1-2 extra steps go.

    That announcer sounds awesome.
