The Raptors are in huge financial trouble. They are going to be way over the cap next two years for a team that won’t even threaten to make the playoffs in a weak conference. I can’t believe Colangelo has a job either.

They should be..Gay is underrated..he is a pure shooter who can get you 6 rebounds and 6 assists a game..with him and Derozan..if Derozan can be more consistent and they get some size in that lineup they will be a factor..

Regarding Bargnani: I just think he needs a change of scenery very severely. He’s not a bad player, but certainly not great either. He could definitely be the 3rd option on a contender, even with his defensive ineptitude. Great coaches can hide his weaknesses within the system and still get something out of him on offense. Casey isn’t the guy for that. There are plenty of bigs out there with virtually no defensive presence that either a) get masked within the system or b) have a dominant defensive big man on the other side. Pau Gasol got eviscerated by KG when he and Odom were the starting bigs with Bynum out. But Bynum took the pressure off of him and Gasol thrived. Dirk Nowitzki is the same way. Great player, one of my all time favorites, but he’s not the greatest defender. Tyson Chandler took the pressure off of him. Give Bargnani the opportunity of either A or B and I think he can be more than serviceable.

Yes, Toronto has to overpay compared to big markets, but which big market team is going to offer Gay what the Raptors are willing to? Not one.

Does Colangelo not see what happened with Kris Humphries? Overpaid players kill your franchise. Toronto has some young talent, and they need to acquire more via the draft.

Has Valenciunas fallen out of favor already? He’s only a rookie, give him and the team some time, and don’t overpay for inefficient players.

Rudy Gay is just a repackaged Joe Johnson. He can certainly be your 2nd or 3rd best player, maybe even THE best on a given night, but he cannot thrive long term as the best player on a team. And the Raptors will pay him for the same reasons the Hawks paid Johnson: he’s the closest thing to a “star” they’ll likely get anytime soon and they can’t just let him walk. I like Rudy Gay for what he brings to the table, but he’s just doesn’t have what it takes to be ‘the man’ on a team.
