There wasn’t enough quality big men in the league and Oden had the talent + potential to dominate. Yes he couldn’t stay healthy and became a bust but it’s not like Portland knew he was going to be one.

Not only did they pass on Durant to draft Odom, they passed on Michael Jordan to draft Sam Bowie.
