Amar’e Stoudemire didn’t read a lot in his youth.
Which means he was like most young people today — in a digital, video-game world getting children to read regularly is not an easy thing. Especially when those kids don’t relate to the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” or the other books out there.
Stoudemire wanted to reach those kids and he now has written three books aimed at middle-school students. The books, such as “STAT: Home Court” are semi-autobiographical and have stories of basketball games on the blacktop. Things middle school boys can relate to but don’t often get to read about.
Stoudemire sat down and talked with NBC News about the books and his goals for them. It’s good stuff, it’s more important stuff than basketball. Hopefully as the Knicks move into the playoffs and Stoudemire is back in the limelight that will give the books a little boost of recognition.
