Tyreke Evans, what are you thinking? That was just ugly.

Feb 27, 2013, 12:33 PM EDT

When the game is decided and there are less than 24 seconds left, there is an unwritten protocol in the NBA — guys just dribble out the clock.

Tyreke Evans — his team down 12 in the second overtime and the game is decided — broke protocol and made a fool of himself on Tuesday night. Not only did he make the needless steal from Dwyane Wade, who was dribbling the clock out, but then he blows the layup. Look, if you’re going to make plays to pad your stats then dunk it and get your points.

That was just bad form and bad execution. Tyreke made a fool out of himself on that one and made himself a YouTube hit. Well done sir.

Thanks to The Basketball Jones for the video find.

Kind of sad that he missed the layin, but I personally have no problem with a guy playing until the final whistle.

“He did not appreciate Tyreke Evans picking his pocket there.”

Well, maybe he should have done a better job protecting the ball. If the game isn’t over, he’s still on the clock. Keep scoring, keep playing defense, keep working until the final buzzer.

Yeah, you can say that….but if one of the Heat players were to have ran down the court and scored OR, god forbid, shot a 3, the whole world would have called the Heat out for running up the score. The players have an unwritten rule about this kind of stuff – it has nothing to do with “he’s still on the clock…”. If it were a close game (basket or two) sure, go for the steal and the basket. But there was 12 seconds left with a 10 point lead. Evans just looked like a clown in this one. But hey, “ball don’t lie”.

When Caron Butler did it to Jonas Valuncianas the other week no one seemed to care that much.

People shouldn’t complain about running up scores either. If there’s time on the clock, keep playing. Nobody said you had to stop trying just because everyone else did.

“Unwritten rules”, although there are some, are stupid. In boxing and MMA they say, “Protect yourself at all times.” Wade should have done the same.

This is the same idiot that was caught on video being chased by police helicopters, driving reckless endangering every other driver on the hwy, nothing he does should be a shock to anyone

  7. nygdriveforfive - Feb 27, 2013 at 2:06 PM

Must be buddies with Caron Butler

  8. tonyinmd - Feb 27, 2013 at 2:20 PM

LOL at the people saying Wade should just keep playing.

If he ran down the court with the ball while the Kings players were walking to their bench and dunked the ball, or chucked up a 3, people would be whining about Wade running the score up or padding his stats and just going overboard at the end of the game.

    hahaha LIKE A SIR!

  10. franchiseplaya - Feb 27, 2013 at 2:54 PM

it was all in good fun when it happened to Valenciunas. a bit of rookie hazing. this is just idiotic.

  11. osprey0112 - Feb 27, 2013 at 3:11 PM

Wade should have scored after that to get over 40 for the night. evans would do that in the future. punk move!

  12. jcmeyer10 - Feb 27, 2013 at 3:38 PM

This is like the Tampa Bay coach crashing a kneel down.

  13. turdfurgerson68 - Feb 27, 2013 at 3:50 PM

Hey Kurt, can we retire the phrase ‘Well done sir’ (as well as ‘well played, so-and-so, well played’, and ‘but I digress’)?

    All are waaaayyyy overused.

    Thanks

The Best part is ESPN called Wade cocky for standing on the ball

  15. trschlicht - Feb 27, 2013 at 6:05 PM

    He should have dunked it

  16. thenmoveback - Feb 27, 2013 at 6:23 PM

The best part was when Wade dropped the ball stepped on it and staired him down. Refs probably could have called a kick ball or some other bs call but even they knew it was a punk play by Evans. But the kings played a great game and had chances to win, Evans was probably just upset they lost.

The game isn’t over until there is three zeros on the clock.

  18. hojo20 - Feb 27, 2013 at 6:52 PM

    Play until the final whistle.

  19. dko83 - Feb 27, 2013 at 8:18 PM

Say what you want about that hilarious blunder by Tyreke, the DWade pose was much worse. If Wade just holds the ball the joke is on Evans, instead.. It’s on Wade.

Tyreke had soooo much potential coming out of college.

With his size, agility and flashes of brilliance, I thought he was going to develop to remind me of D. Rose. Have his own team and be an elite player.

But instead, he is turning out to be a player with GREAT PROMISE but NEVER DELIVERS, like Joe Johnson.
