Former NBA player Shawne Williams pleads guilty on marijuana charge

shawne williams nets arrested

We told you back in December former NBA player Shawne Williams had been arrested on a marijuana charge in the Memphis area — a policeman caught him smoking out in his parked Porsche. There was also some “syrup” — codine heavy cough syrup — in the car.

Now Williams has pled guilty but is not facing much of a penalty, reports TMZ (you just knew it would be TMZ, although the site calls Williams a former “NBA star,” which is a pretty generous definition of the word star).

Williams pled guilty to weed possession today and was sentenced to one day in jail and a $500 fine. He was given credit for time served and has already paid the fee.

The codeine charge was dropped after the passenger in Williams’ car claimed it was his … not Williams’.

Williams played five seasons in the NBA for five different teams, most recently as a member of the New Jersey Nets in 2011-12. He did not land with an NBA team this season. There is no team that will pick him up this season now, and while one never says never I wouldn’t bet on next season, either.

Just as a reminder, Williams was arrested in 2007 and 2010 on similar charges.

spthgr8, you need to roll a fat one and light it up and chill out.

What if cops spent more time on real criminals they wouldn’t
be so many idiots out there with guns killing kids in school, the movies.
I guess the cops are too busy planning to kidnap woman and eat them.

Are you trying to tell me that, sitting in your PORSCHE and smoking a blunt, sipping on some syrup isn’t STUPID????

NBA players (current and former) smoke weed!? Nooooooooo, no way. Not the place for a rant like this but if you just legalize it and tax it, national debt not so large… Michael Beasley alone would cut the debt by a quarter, I’m sure.

    • davidly - Feb 27, 2013 at 8:52 PM

Actually, the national debt would be higher because at least some of all the nefarious black ops crap is funded through not just the expensive stuff they fly in from the various war zones, but also lots and lots of weed.

      • dko83 - Feb 27, 2013 at 9:01 PM

You may be right, I do not have the knowledge to dispute that, but the state government’s of Colorado and Washington disagree. We all know Javelle has to be on the funky stuff anyway, so at least now he’s paying some more tax money.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m all with the sentiment of your first comment. As far as CO and WA go, they ain’t federal. All you need to do is take a look at how the current “liberal” WH’s DOJ has responded over the last five years to every single loosening of marijuana laws–in spite of having promised otherwise–and you can draw your own conclusions.
