I loved that team I referenced earlier. I was in 2nd grade when they lost to the lakers in 82 and i cried lol. But yeah Iverson was amazing. He took that team of mostly scrubs to the finals. Very impressive.Kinda like when Lebron took that god awful cavs team to the finals. This sixers team is terrible btw and it’s kinda doug collins fault. He won’t last much longer

Honestly I feel bad for Doug, he doesn’t have the talent to win games. Two guys on this team are respectable starters. The rest are fringe rotation players. As good of a coach as I think he is, he is not good at developing young guys. He’s very demanding and he needs a vet to lead by example. Having said all that, I do not understand his rotations at all. For example Damien Wilkins got 29 minutes last night, I think he is a nice guy to have deep on the bench but why not play youngsters like Moultrie? The season is obviously over, play youngsters and get in the lotto. Last, to the guy who said Collins doesn’t get enough say in personnel, he was the one who wanted turner and he was the one who wanted Kwame Iwho’s getting 2yr/6 mil to sit on the bench).

yea im merely 24 years old. i can research my history but no i havent been able to experience that era like some others might have been able to. wish i could have. i grew up watching iverson take over games by himself. alongside the likes of eric snow, george lynch, aaron mckie, tyrone hill, ratliff, geiger etc etc

right now. the sixers need “That Guy” that when the going gets tough, everyone knows who to go to. Iggy somewhat filled that role for a while. We need a guy who expects the big shots and seeks them out on a nightly basis

In no way is this team the same from last year. They only have 5 returning players from last years roster – Holiday, Turner, Young, Hawes, Allen. They don’t have their leading scorer (Lou), Iguodala who led the team in assists and steals and was also the best defensive player in the league, the guys who were second and third on the team in rebounding (Dre, and Brand), their leadership (Brand, Dre, Lou), and now they have a roster that doesn’t fit together without Bynum. The three point shooters are nothing without Bynum opening up the shots for them. The perimeter defense is suspect now without Dre, but they were supposed to be ok because Bynum would be back there. Bynum was the team’s identity. They need him for this roster to work. They still need better leadership, but Bynum makes them a high seed in the east. The rest of the pieces fall in place when Bynum is running the show.

All great coaches have said, “I don’t know what to do.” Phil Jackson said it about fifty times during the season Kobe averaged 35 points on 27 shots per game.

What Doug Collins did in that press conference is something I’ve never seen him do; he called his team out publicly. He’s desperate to see something from his team. We’ll see if it works.

Looks like Doug was having his I told you so moment with upper management and ownership last night. It was like he was telling them he was doing them a favor with the junk on this team. I still can’t get over not going after Rudy Gay or trading Evan Turner(pg/bust).

I love Doug Collins, he’s a good basketball mind, puts his heart and soul into the team and all that, but it’s hard to feel sorry for a guy ranting about the players that he brought in. When the Sixers were looking to replace Rod Thorn ( who did a terrible job and who did not get along with Collins) they settle on Tony Delio of all people. That right there shows that it’s Collins running this team, with everyone else playing a second fiddle when it comes to bringing in players.

Dorrell Wright has beena awful. “Swaggy P” has been pretty bad. The depth on this team is made up of guys who should be playing on 10 day contracts (Pargo (who was) Wilkins, Moultrie… well, at least he’s a rookie.) With that kind of talent you can’t expect any coach to win, but this offseason has to take shape with a real basketball person picking these players, not Collins. He had his chance, and it’s backfiring in a big way.

Secondly, the Bynum excuse is old from the media on why this team isn’t winning.This team made the playoffs last year with pretty much the same team, minus Iggy. To go from that to this mess isn’t Bynum’s fault. It’s the Sixers administration doing what they always do. Sign cheap free agent role players, get some mediocre pick in the draft, and trade away any real talent to other teams. They tried with Bynum this year, but only because he was set to be a free agent, so the risk wasn’t that high. It’s amazing what great basketball fans in Philly who want to see a good team have to deal with from this inept group of people running the Sixers.

Doug Collins is one of the smartest guys around involved in the NBA, but with that said he’s just not a great coach.. He doesn’t fight hard enough with management to get the guys he wants for his system (not just in Philly either, same thing in Chicago and Washington) and name one GREAT coach who ever said “I don’t know what to do”. If your coach doesn’t know, what does that say to the guys playing FOR HIM or for the GM, President who are paying the guy. He’s smart and knows what the game should look that, but as far as putting his foot down or trying to relate to players or get his point across with his guys it just doesn’t work with him..

theres no doubting collins pours his heart and soul into this team. but he shouldnt be so hard on himself because the pieces in place here arent the kinda pieces that threaten to contend in this league.

Turner is a bench player.

hawes shouldnt be on any nba roster period. If i got a nickel for every time he boxed someone out i wouldnt be able to afford a double cheeseburger and id starve to death

thad is useful but cant be as heavily relied upon offensively. also, his defensive footwork is BAD

lavoy, young, wright, richardson…they are all reserve-type players that you cant thrust into starting roles

Jrue has talent, but if i had a nickel every time he turned the ball over late in the game during crunch time, id be munchin on double cheeseburgers all day

ahhhhhhhh do i miss the times of AI man. we had identity. we had swag. i felt the buzz in my chest every night. Lets go sixers!

If the players were half as good as this coach they’d be in the EC finals every year. Feel sorry for Doug Collins.
