You do realize that this is his first game since December, right? He’s not gonna just step back on the court and magically regain his touch…And this doesn’t come at the expense of developing Reggie Jackson; it gives Reggie another mentor and someone to learn from as he continues to grow…You think Scott Brooks would want Reggie Jackson in the game during a big moment in the playoffs right now? I’d much rather take Derek Fisher’s experience in that situation

You’ve left a bunch of comments basically repeating yourself. Your missing one big point though. Nobody faults Fisher for wanting to play for a contender rather than Dallas. The thing people are taking issue with is why sign with Dallas in the first place if you are just going to quit on the team. He was going to leave before he hurt his knee. If the real reason he left was “he wanted to rehab by his family” that could have easily been arranged. I get that leaving Utah had bigger issues. If he has to be near his family why doesn’t he retire and stay retired?

Dallas has every right to be “agitated” for the way Fisher left them. Should they have just let him retire and walk away from his salary and kept his rights for this season?

C’mon son, LA wasn’t even a contender when he left Utah. actually he convinced Kobe not to leave once he got there because Kobe was asking to be traded. The decision to leave Utah was strictly because of his daughter because he actually loved Utah. His words not mine.

I get how it looks but it makes complete sense at this point in his career and life. If I’m his age and I have the option of being away from my family with a non contender or being away from my family with a contender and friends. I’m sorry but I’m making the same decision because at least if I leave my family, there’s a reason behind it that has meaning. Not just playing to be on a team. Stop the Hate

What?!!! His wife is from LA idiot, and he already had a home in LA. Lets see, Cleveland or LA? C’mon son that’s obvious. At least he was familiar with the team and coach in LA, he had no reason to go to New York when LA was an option. On top of the that LA was losing at the time and Utah was winning, so it definitely wasn’t a selfish choice, it was the right choice. You kids say the darnedest things! Lol

If they are such a good organization, why would not one but two players do this to them, think about it……this is the same team that had no problem Jerking Jason Terry and not paying Tyson Chandler, two of the main reasons they even have a title. So leaving a team because there are only two doctors that can perform the surgery necessary to save your daughter and neither of those doctors reside in Utah means you have a history? C’mon Son, hopefully you would’ve done the same for your kid. Secondly y’all are right, he’s old, so why play for the Mavs at this point in your career knowing they aren’t contenders and on top of that be away from your family. He has the right to make that choice at this point in his career and what he’s saying is, if I’m going to leave my family, at least let it be on a contender, otherwise what’s the point.

Perkins not being amnesty’d (sp?) is a mystery to me. The thunder not doing whatever it took to keep the core of durant, westbrook, ibaka, and harden together is beyond a mystery to me. I don’t ever remember a core that young being that promising…. ever. They already made the finals and they were all around 23 years old. So what do they do? Dump harden to avoid tax. Kill a potential dynasty. Awesome. It would be one thing if they got something back. We’ll see if Lamb ever pans out or if the 9th or 10th pick this year will be worth a crap. But I think we all see how GREAT Harden is and what a disaster this is. It would be like the Lakers trading Worthy in his 3rd year or the Blazers trading Drexler. It sucks!

I dunno if you are on twitter, but if you are, follow this dude named haralobob voulgaris. All he does is get with his MIT grad computer geeks and run computer simulations and they bet on NBA for a living. I remember him on twitter last year screaming about perkins being on the floor when the heat went small. Bosh was playing center and perkins was worthless. And Fisher was so much noticeably slower than everyone on the court it wasn’t even funny. If he is there just to hang out in the locker room, that’s fine. But if you havent’ noticed, Reggie Jackson has been pretty good. I hope this doesn’t hurt his confidence. Because fisher has been washed up for 2 or 3 years. But Brooks is loyal to the old guys and being old school. So while the rest of us scratched our heads wondering why the hell he was letting the heat run laps around them with their small lineup, he was banging his head against the wall with perkins and fisher and killing their chances for a ring. Now after this ridiculous harden trade, they went from the most exciting team in years and a chance for a dynasty to just another contender. Sigh.

Ok, if they put Ibaka at the center who plays the 4? Durant? Cool so who does Durant guard on defense? Lebron? Sorry doesn’t work because the heat play Haslem at the 4 who would then have to be guarded by Kevin Martin or Sefalosha, who both cant guard Lebron or Haslem. Not Happening! Based on Personnel as is the Heat will always have a matchup advantage on the Thunder Hence the reason the Thunder keep losing to the Heat. They just don’t matchup well. As far as Perkins goes, He plays because he is Physical, One of their leaders on the floor, He talks on Defense and just like a good offensive lineman he is one of the big reasons Durant gets so many open shots. NBA players will tell you he is one of the best screeners in the game if not the best but the average fan won’t see that because there is no Stat for it. Oklahoma got rid of Fisher after the year because they wanted to See if Durant and Westbrook would take that roll as the leaders of the Team and if they didn’t, then they would get somebody like Fisher back to take that Role again. Well we’ve seen Westbrooks Tantrums this year so although hes a superstar, hes clearly not the leader. Durant on the other hand is more of a lead with actions type of guy but sometimes a team needs that verbal motivation and that’s where D. Fish comes in. That trade of Maynor was made for that reason because they need that leadership if they want to get back to the Finals. Please stop acting like They pay people like Perkins for no Reason. He will stay in the league for those small detail reasons because they matter. It ain’t flashy but it’s necessary. Same goes for D. Fish. Maybe y’all forgot he started for Dallas before he left. Yea he’s old but he’s solid and he’s never going to hurt you more than he’s going to help you.

Fisher, what a stand up guy. Didn’t the NBPA union want him gone years back?

Then says in Utah he wanted to go where the best hospitals were for his daughter and turned and signed in LA over NY and Cleveland. The NY metro area has plenty of doctors and the Cleveland Clinic is well renowned in the medical community.
This guys word is garbage, no wonder Dallas is ticked.

All NBA divas should take note of this. When your body is no longer athletically competitive you can still get on a team with leadership and experience. That’s the difference between Iverson and Fisher.

I don’t support Fisher’s handling of the Mavericks though. With how player friendly they are and the conditions on which they released him, he should have contacted them at least out of etiquette.

Correct me if I’m wrong, isn’t this technically by-far worst than what lebron did? Fisher go hurt needed rehab, instead of rehabbing with the team he wanted to go home and recover, but that’s not what his real intension were. Instead, of letting the team know who just signed him this season about what his next move, he signs with OKC. Basically he didn’t want to be their. I only commented because people blew the whole bron story up, and this Derrick fisher guy story will be something if the past in a few days

He was waived by Houston and part of that deal was to waive his player option for the following season. He collected the rest of his salary last season from the Rockets. This was assumed before the Rockets made that trade because they wanted cap space and 1st round picks. Looking at what he made with the Thunder last year and what he would have made this year had he not taken a vacation he really was giving up about 1.7 million. Still, you’re right for the most part but he did have unusual exits from two franchises.

I get what you’re saying and agree for the most part but against a team like the Heat Perkins should not play. If he could dominate Bosh offensively on the block and force a mismatch that way then play him and make the Heat adjust to the Thunder’s lineup but that doesn’t happen and he was absolutely brutal on defense in the finals because he couldn’t step out and guard anyone, including Bosh. Against the Heat they need to go small and have Ibaka as their big matched up on Bosh. Otherwise their defensive rotations will be incredibly slow again and the Heat will always have someone wide open on the perimeter knocking down 3′s.

A couple of facts that need to be said.

The year Derek left the Jazz and signed with the Lakers. Kobe had actually asked to be traded right before Fisher signed with the Lakers. Fisher gave up his huge pay day contract of his career to leave the Jazz and take less with the Lakers who weren’t even good at that point. Jazz had just made the WCF the year before while Lakers were eliminated in the 1st round for the 2nd consecutive year. So if you don’t think that decision had a lot to do with his daughter then I don’t know what to tell you. Obviously Bynum matured and Lakers got Pau Gasol and they were contenders again, but that was after Fisher signed.

Derek last year gave up around 3.3m left on his deal when traded to the Rockets so that he can sign a minimum deal with OKC. Yes he gave up money to be able to play were he wanted. What a terrible thing to do right?

What is it with Dallas? Lamar Odom did something similar as well. They have a reputation as one of the best organizations in the league to play for, yet certain players just take advantage of the team and then split.

Maybe it says more about the players than about the organization.
