Wade tries to nickname himself “WOW.” LeBron not impressed.

Feb 25, 2013, 1:54 PM EDT

Lebrion James, Dwyane Wade AP

You can’t nickname yourself. Only Kobe Bryant did it and frankly that should not be allowed to stand, it’s just too late to stop it.

Now Dwyane Wade is trying to go that route, and LeBron James is none to impressed, reports Ethan Skolnick at the Palm Beach Post.

“It’s ‘WOW,’ Way of Wade,” James said, referring to the slogan for Wade’s Li-Ning shoes. “I think it’s corny.”

For a long time Wade was “Flash” but that stopped a couple years ago because, well, he’s not that flash anymore. He picks his spots.

And Wade loves his new nickname.

“I’m taking it global!” he shouted.

There is a good chance that this is the only time you will see Wade’s WOW nickname on this blog not used in a mocking fashion.

you have to admit for a nickname black mamba is pretty cool. plus kobe can back it up.

  2. truprof - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:09 PM

As age and declining skills catch up to him, Wade’s nickname will become DFade.

  3. cantonbound13 - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:14 PM

Dwhine Wade or Diva Wade is much more appropriate.

  4. bougin89 - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:15 PM

Oh I thought WOW stood of Way Of Whiners, like he was starting a type of club or something.

  5. tampajoey - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:20 PM

I still prefer Wade’s other nickname… “Loser sidekick that couldn’t get it done without Lebron and Bosh”

    • thenmoveback - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:32 PM

2006 NBA finals MVP. Did it without LBJ or Bosh. Dumba$$ ur the loser!

      • tampajoey - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:42 PM

Wade was Shaq’s sidekick in 2006 loser. Sidekick Wade hasn’t done SH!T without Shaq or Lebron.

      • thenmoveback - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:09 PM

Your not to smart huh? Did u watch those finals? Wade was the man shaq was the side kick. Stop trolling and worry about whatever loser team u rout for. I’m not saying wade is the greatest player of all time but look at the guys stats and his rings, he is a great player. Some of u hater are soooo pathetic, I’m not a Knicks C’s or lakers fan but I’m not gonna go around saying their all stars suck, they are obviously great players, like them or not. Respect the game, but I’m assuming ur a depressed magic fan ( and you will be for a long time) so I understand y u r so upset about Wade and the HEAT!

      • cantonbound13 - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:11 PM

You mean the Finals where referee Tim Donaghy got busted for fixing games? Isn’t it amazing how Dwhine Wade set the record for free throw attempts in a series? Not only was Diva Wade a sidekick to Shaq but also Tim Donoghey.

      • thenmoveback - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:23 PM

No I’m talking about the finals where wade Hit tons of crazy shots and got fouled left and right because he was all over the court. The finals you’re thinking of is an imaginary land you created, Where people root for rival cities And blame the refs when there team doesn’t win And you get so jealous of them that you go on all their articles troll.

      • eagles92 - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:31 PM

Tim Donaghy went to jail for fixing those games get your facts straight loser.

      • thenmoveback - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:38 PM

Ok so we should throw away all the championships every team won while this guy was a ref? It wasn’t the fact that the Heat made the most shots and were the best team that season? Oh and wasn’t there a ref that the great MJ had on his side? Where the bulls never lost one game he officiated? Trolls will troll Haters will hate and u better get used to it because all U fools will be coming up with a new excuse after this season.

      • thenmoveback - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:48 PM

@shegales82 before u tell me to get my facts straight get yours! Tim Donaghy DID NOT officiate In the 2006 NBA finals loser.

      • cantonbound13 - Feb 25, 2013 at 5:40 PM

Tim Donoghey was found guilty of gambling & fixing NBA games in August of 2007. Two games in particular he admitted to gambling on were in the 2006 NBA Finals. Game 3, where the Heat were down 2-0 in the series & won that game by 2 points. Any coincidence Wade shot 18 freethrows in that game? Game 5 of the Finals with the series tied at 2, Donaghey writes in his book ” the referees handed the Heat a tremendous advantage by awarding the Heat 49 free throws compared to just 25 for Dallas. The Heat won the game 101-100 after Dwayne Wade made 2 freethrows with 1.9 seconds remaining.” He claims the league had such Distaste for Mark Cuban that it was “understood ” the Heat were to win the series. Tim Donoghey did not have to officiate the games for them to be fixed, he was a big part of the scandal of fixing games but mainly got in trouble for gambling on them. He made lots of money gambling on them because it was obvious he knew what the outcome was going to be.
So Mr. Move back, as you can see it is obvious, YOU NEED TO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT before you open your big mouth. Study the history of the game before you act like an expert bandwagon fan!

      • thenmoveback - Feb 25, 2013 at 6:01 PM

So you actually believe that this guy is telling the truth in his book? Not just making excuses for himself so he doesn’t look so bad? Sorry man but I dont trust ppl like him who wrote books after their crimes to cover there tracks, I guess I live in the real world. We’re the refs the best in that series, probably not. But if watch the NBA that year you would know the heat were a driving to the hoop team ( draws more fouls) while the Mavs were a perimeter shooting team ( draws less fouls) but you knew this right? U know that shaq was on that team and drew many fouls which he did his whole career, but u know that right? But think what u want and start preparing your excuses for next season when the heat and Lebron are kings of the NBA once again.

      • Mr. Wright 212 - Feb 25, 2013 at 6:45 PM

Anyone with a scintilla of objectivity knows the final four games of the 2006 Finals were fixed.

      • cantonbound13 - Feb 26, 2013 at 10:13 AM

The proof is overwhelming. It’s not just his words in a book.
I guess you think wrestling is real. You probably also believe in the tooth fairy & Santa.

    • cwilson6843 - Feb 25, 2013 at 4:46 PM

No beat up shaq was wades sidekick. His last chance to keep up with kobe. Wade was the one to bring the heat back trailing the mavs 1-3 and won the finals mvp. Do ur research before u run ur mouth

  6. modellforprez - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:23 PM

he should try G.A.Y or L.A.M.E

  7. fanofevilempire - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:30 PM

David Stern will not like any of this.

  8. decimusprime - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:36 PM

Hey did you mean “sidekick who already won a ring, couldn’t get it done again w/out Bosh & James”? Ya know WoW and the Heat won it all in ’06.

    • tampajoey - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:43 PM

Right, when he was Shaq’s sidekick.

      • southbeachtalent - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:00 PM

        Yea like Kobe

      • tampajoey - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:18 PM

Sidekick Wade did nothing more with Miami in the years without Lebron and Shaq than Lebron did in Cleveland… and now the Super Sidekick thinks he deserves a WOW nickname?

      • tampajoey - Feb 25, 2013 at 7:49 PM

        07-08 – Wade (w/o Shaq & Lebron) Miami 15 wins & Cavs had 45 wins
        08-09 – Wade (w/o Shaq & Lebron) Miami 43 wins & Cavs had 66 wins
        09-10 – Wade (w/o Shaq & Lebron) Miami 47 wins & Cavs had 61 wins

  9. reasonablemindsays - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:36 PM

    DeBum is more like it

  10. davidly - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:39 PM

Way of Walking up the defender’s nuts & chest on your way to the hoop and getting the ref to call the and 1.

  11. cosanostra71 - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:50 PM

    Dumb nickname.

  12. teambringitstrong - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:58 PM

    1. Kobe’s name derived from his love of snakes and like the black mamba which has the ability to strike in the same area in rapid succession with accuracy, so can Kobe.
    2. If the above commentators are going to down Kobe for not winning a ring single handedly then don’t forget that Wade won his WITH Shaq in ’06 and with LBJ and Avatar last year.

    • cordae - Feb 25, 2013 at 5:44 PM

“the same area in rapid succession with ACCURACY, so can Kobe”

LOL Kobes insanely good, but he and accuracy rarely go hand in hand..

  13. bowwserr - Feb 25, 2013 at 2:58 PM

Why aren’t more people complimenting the amazingness of Raider’s comment? People don’t know good comedy anymore…

  14. acdc363 - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:02 PM

Well at least we know what Wade’s family reality show will be titled when he retires!

  15. 00maltliquor - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:09 PM

WOW! That hairline is atrocious! Just take the Fusion Pro Glide to the dome already, LeBron.

Didn’t think it was THAT bad until you see that pic above without the headband!

    • cantonbound13 - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:13 PM

PED’s are not friendly to the hairline.

      • fm31970 - Feb 25, 2013 at 4:53 PM

  16. tampajoey - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:27 PM

Nike is coming out with “Wade brand shoelaces” exclusively for their Nike Lebron X shoes.

Lerbon carries Sidekick Wade on the court so Lebron X’s should carry Wade off the court too.

  17. cwilson6843 - Feb 25, 2013 at 5:18 PM

Let’s get one thing straight , wade gets paid millions of dollars to play basketball, he’s got 2 championship rings and he’s still ballin. All u guys do is go to work and go home. And talk crap about amazing athletes. U guys need to have kids or somethin maybe u will somethin else to do with ur life besides hate on everybody. Just enjoy the talent

  18. cwilson6843 - Feb 25, 2013 at 5:34 PM

But overall i will admit that WOW is a dumb nickname

  19. tampajoey - Feb 25, 2013 at 6:14 PM

Maybe if WOW stands for “Whiny Old Woman”

  20. spthegr8 - Feb 25, 2013 at 6:15 PM

Lebron is just being a good friend. It is lame

  22. realninerfan22 - Feb 25, 2013 at 7:05 PM

Blah blah blah….Quit hatin on 2x champ d wade aka WOW lol…. Don’t be mad cuz he’s rich, a sharp dresser and his girlfriend is HOT. Dont hate just appreciate greatness losers, and o yea put your lotion down.

  23. deeballer - Feb 25, 2013 at 8:51 PM

The name might not be that great, but how could any of you not see that Wade is a damn good player. No great player in this league that has won a championship ever did it alone without one or two great players by their side. Magic Johnson NEVER won a championship after Jabar retired. Bird would probably never win a championship without Parish, McHale, and DJ. I noticed that Jordan never won anything before Pippen came along. Kobe might have won without Shaq, but look at his supporting cast he had. Most of you people that hate DWade just can’t stand it because he has destroyed your team time and time again and all you can do is b!tch about him.

    • savvybynature - Feb 26, 2013 at 1:24 AM

I can’t stand him because he is a whiny, flopping diva. And I’m a Spurs fan, so it’s definitely not because he has destroyed my team (Spurs have been quit a bit more successful than Heat since Wade has come into the league).

    • savvybynature - Feb 26, 2013 at 1:24 AM

But yeah, he is a good player of course.

  24. cranespy - Feb 25, 2013 at 9:12 PM

Ever notice how DWade was legend….a true sportsman….modest…..obliging…..gracious…….BEFORE LBJ came to South Beach…..since he has become known for his attitude….his aggression….his ridicule of opponents…either via a fake cough or thru his lack of sportsmanship evidenced by his bench area antics….aimed at rubbing the face of another vanquished opponent in the dung heap. Lebron was dubbed a villain for his naivety….I am of the belief that DWade is true

  25. southpaw77 - Feb 26, 2013 at 5:04 PM

You cant nickname yourself? Coming from someone like James who glossed himself King James in high school, that is rich.
