The Spurs have more size with Duncan and Splitter, which would help them win the rebounding battle against the Heat, and the way a team beats the Heat’s swarming defense is through *elite passing.*

Dallas Mavericks Coach Rick Carlisle said it during the Finals in 2010.
Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel told his team that in the Pacers-Heat series in 2011.
And it’s true today.

Trying to run an iso-heavy offense against a fast, disciplined defense like Miami is playing into their hands.
They have good wing defenders, and their bigs cover a lot of ground. Passing forces the Heat to keep rotating, and with patience, eventually somebody will come open.

I believe OKC could beat the Heat, but for whatever reason, they become very iso-heavy against the Heat. I can’t explain why, but it’s noticeable how much less frequently OKC passes the ball in games against the Heat.

The Spurs though always stay true to their system, and of course, they have a coach with a pretty impressive history of playoff success. However, I’m still not sold on the Spurs beating OKC in a 7-game series – their collapse against OKC last year despite coming into the Conference Finals well-rested after sweeping their previous series just looms too large.

No matter what kind of streak the Heat are on, they’re still in the eastern conference. Most of their games recently and all season have been against the pathetic eastern conference. They are in by far the weakest division in the NBA, including the three worst teams. Any average team could have a win streak against those teams. I give the Heat credit for beating a few good teams (from the western conference) but the rest are trash. Spurs and Thunder deserve to be #1 and #2.

Not gonna say that my Pacers will beat the Heat in a 7 game series but, no one can say that they can’t. If any team is gonna beat the Heat, it’s the Pacers. They have the defense, the length, the athleticism, and the inside game to make it very interesting.

The Spurs are a top 5 defense this year, whereas they were middle of the pack the last few seasons. The statistical evidence says they are just better than previous years, and though people like to bring up the Memphis series from two playoffs ago, they have three new starters since then. They really aren’t the same team at all, unless you think it’s been Parker and Duncan that’s holding them back all along (and if you think that, you’re an idiot).

As for Houston, they are a trendy team and fun to watch but their defense is terrible. They’d be lucky to win two games in a first round matchup.

Alright, Kurt: How can you put the Indiana behind Ok City this week?

When you say “they need Roy Hibbert to be his old self” while ignoring the elephant on the court that is Kendrick Perkins, who might just have a bit to do with why the Thunder “defense has been up and down”–while Hibbert has just a bit to do with why the Pacers have the “defense to be the team that challenges the Heat”–your words belie your ranking.

You know, if this is a weekly thing, and all.

Pointless rankings …. but man the Spurs do this every year, then they can’t defend in the playoffs and age seems to jump out all the sudden.

With that said the West is wiiiiiide open imo.

Clippers, Thunder, Spurs … man even Houston could shock some people if they get in.
