LeBron James with ridiculous warm-up dunk (VIDEO)

Feb 25, 2013, 12:35 PM EDT

Why do we need stars in the All-Star Dunk Contest? Because they can do things like that.

You need to get ahead to about the 35 second mark of this video (although Mario Chalmers has a quality dunk earlier) to see LeBron James go between his legs, throw an alley-oop pass off the backboard to himself then throw that down one handed. With power.

Just as a reminder, there is no chance whatsoever that LeBron does the dunk contest. None. Will not happen. He really has nothing to gain. But if you have tickets to a Heat game coming up, get there early. It’s a show.

everyone that was in this year’s dunk contest could do that dunk. this isn’t a knock on LeBron at all because he was just messing around in warmups and he is a very good dunker. But those guys were good dunkers and threw down some very good dunks.

But I think there would just be more hype around the dunk contest, the stars would miss dunks just like the other guys because the basketballs aren’t the balls used in games. Also, we would probably get some ad space dunk as the winner like the Blake KIA dunk.

Easy for him too …. thats was half-speed pedestrian type of dunk, I’m sure LeBron can put any dunk in, just don’t know if he has an arsenal of creative ones or if he really cares about that.

When guys suck at dunking they sign paintings, jump over vehicles and blow out cupcake candles.

    yawwwnnnnnnnnnn.

Really no point for him to ever do it.

Better dunks on YouTube than the NBA All Star contest for years now. They should bypass the stars and get the YouTubers instead.

My question is this: why don’t we hear complaints about other stars not being in the dunk contest? It seems like only LeBron gets the ire of the fans because he’s never competed in a dunk contest. I don’t hear Durants name being tossed out there like “why hasn’t he done it?…” Or how about Russell Westbrook or Derrick Rose (before his injury)… These guys are at least as athletic as LeBron, and they are younger than LeBron. Let hear some call-outs for these guys as well.

Well, Russell Westbrook was a candidate for the dunk contest a few years ago in the fan vote-in spot, but the fans did not vote him in, they voted Rudy Fernandez in instead.

At the end of the day, LeBron is the biggest star of all those people, of course he will hear it the loudest. He also continues to be compared, fair or not, to players like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, both of whom participated.

obvious attempt to pad his “warm-up” stats with a high percentage shot….

Except LeBron would prolly choke and miss the dunk 5 times if it were the real thing.

Really wasn’t anything special. If he did the behind the back 360, now that would’ve been special. Knowing LeBron tho, he’d just throw down a tomahawk in a dunk contest.

Or if he would have done a 720 with a parrot on his shoulder and an eye patch it would have been epic, stupid, sick..

It was an awesome dunk, but how hard is it to turn your phone horizontal?

  10. reesesteel23 - Feb 25, 2013 at 3:32 PM

I’m not sure if I’m watching a different video or what but if we’re all talking about the same dunk(which is the last dunk right before the vid ends)….that was a SICK dunk…..haters

Not a LBJ or Heat fan but damn that was a really good jam.

    Whoa

He doesn’t do the dunk contest because he is afraid to fail. What a loser. You can’t be the greatest and not participate in something all the greats have done. This generation of nba players are a bunch of premadonnas. Entitled p.o.s.!

    • rawgator06 - Feb 25, 2013 at 10:48 PM

I know, right? Remember the sick 1963 slam dunk contest that Wilt the Stilt crushed? All the greatest have participated in the dunk contest, right?

Someone at Nike and or in Lebrons camp has to be smart enough to see the potential here with what this video just did. You are going to start seeing these cell phone videos pop up randomly till the end of this season from pre game warm up dunks, then over the summer of Lebron in a gym or some pro league game warm up, then build it up to the dunk contest next season. Nike could build an entire new “underground viral video” campaign. And then Lebron wins the Dunk contest, and no more questions.
