If you read his words correctly, Cuban talks about the limitations of the new CBA, about not being able to make any significant roster-move, not about the value of Kobe. He gives a question “should they?”, but in the answer he says, he himself would never cut the 23 Mio he has to pay for Nowitzki next season. So he doesn’t propose the Lakers should amnesty Kobe.

That’s just an ignorant comment by Mark Cuban, Lakers would never do this. Kobe’s value from a marketing perspective alone generates far more revenues for the team than his salary plus the tax they pay on it, not to mention he’s still playing at an all-star level. Poor attempt by Cuban to make a Phil Jackson-like public statement to get under the skin of the Lakers.

Honestly its an intriguing idea. If you come back with Dwight and all them are you good enough to win it all? Pau will probably gone, but what is he gonna fetch at this point? Probably not much, so maybe you amnesty him…but then what? Still not good enough to win it all. If the Lakers look at it realistically and see they can win, amnestying Kobe makes the most sense since it saves a ton, ensures you keep Dwight, and you can trade Pau for nothing because you’re rebuilding. And then dare to dream for LeBron in 2014.

But the Lakers don’t care about a rebuild, they can sell the building out with Kobe, so he’s probably still worth enough to them that there’s no way they’d do it.

Not a Laker fan. Not a Laker hater. Kobe has won as many championships as any active player, and was a key to those championships. He earned every penny he has made, the hard way. For all the shots he has missed there are many, many clutch baskets, just like the one and only MJ.
