They wouldn’t. Chris Paul was just used as an example of the caliber of player the Celtics would want in return for Rondo.

In theory, the Celtics would be willing to trade Rondo for a guy like Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant.
In reality, none of those teams (Clippers, Lakers, Heat, or OKC) would seriously consider accepting that trade, especially with Rondo recovering from knee surgery.

So as a practical matter, the Celtics aren’t trading Rondo.

I don’t see why the Clippers would even talk about Paul for Rondo. All indications are that Paul re-signs. Paul > Rondo.

Will be interesting to see what Danny actually does in light of all the crazy rumors. I get the feeling it will be pretty underwhelming if anything, but who knows what deals are actually a secret and there are no rumors of? Anything’s possible with NBA trades.
