I agree. Sometimes you just have to accept that if a rookie isn’t doing anything whatsoever, he’s unlikely to go anywhere. Especially a late-first round big with absolutely no skills on the offensive end. Furthermore, Melo doesn’t have good athletiscm, coordination, movement, explosiveness, etc. (as opposed to say Ibaka early in his career, who’s offensive game was limited but he was always well coordinated and athletic).

Besides for that one in 25 (maybe) who actually develop into a good NBA player. But is it worth it to waste resources on those chances, if you can trade him for a serviceable bench player?

Fab Melo is simply not an NBA player. His ceiling is Aaron Gray.

Ok heres the deal, Paul is no longer valuable for the deal he has, Garnett is a defensive big or no one would want him either.. Rondo is your building piece. Now try trading anyone else for a star or even a good player…
Exactly what Danny is going through now.. Next time dont build a team around old vets and trade away any youth that has some potential because when those vets get too old and break down your team is in for a long change that will take a few years.. Too bad for Rondo; he could have been real special of a player.

Ainge, or any other G.M. would be insane to even go near Ben Gordon and his ridiculous contract…unless you’re willing to take Jason Terry.

Ben Gordon would be a nice fit in Boston !

He needs a change and Boston needs an experienced guard that is a proven scorer and solid ball handler.

I think that would be a long term solution to Bostons backcourt, even when Rondo returns.

They can play together or Ben could try to be an all-time 6th man on a solid squad ….aka Ginobli

There’s a difference between being unproductive as a rookie (Fab Melo) versus being unproductive as an 8th year pro (Telfair).

If Telfair was going to become any better than a backup point guard, he would have shown that ability by now. The fact that he’s a third-string PG on a lottery team is probably a sign he wouldn’t deserve playing time on a good team.

By contrast, Fab Melo could develop into a good backup center with time.

So taking into account that bigs are more valuable than guards, a young backup center is better than a veteran 3rd string point guard.

Telfair doesn’t help the Celtics win many games this year or in the future.
Fab Melo, at least in theory, could help the Celtics in the future.

Yeah, that’s what injuries have done – they’ve lost 2 guards and a PF, and they lacked size to begin with.

Not really sure why Boston is trying to make moves to stay relevant. It’s just not happening this year, regardless of 99% of the moves they could possibly make. I feel like they’re grasping at straws and getting rid of a player with a ton of potential for what will likely set them back even further.

As a Sixers fan I would trade Evan Turner for a package including Melo. Maybe even Bynum and Turner for Melo and Rondo.

Melo may be a ‘role player’, but he has waaayy more potential than a journeyman like garrett will ever have.

It’s not like the Suns are in a position to demand anything. They are just terrible and will be in lotto land for years.

I protected 1st and a journeyman (what established vet? No one asked for that) is a very good trade for some one with Melo’s size and potential.

So? Melo hasn’t done anything either. He has gotten eight minutes of playing time for the entire season, and still hasn’t seen any extra time even with Sullinger out. Clearly there is a reason he isn’t playing; he’s just not very good.

Because he was a uncoachable and a dumba** (unlicensed gun charge) the first time he was in Boston. Ainge and Doc couldn’t trade him fast enough.

If Phoenix really wants Melo it would need to send Boston a lotto protected 1st rd pick and Garrett.

Sebastian Telfair to Boston for Melo and a future second round pick. The Suns get rid of their 3rd string point guard they no longer need and get youth, while the Celtics get a guard.

Well at least this rumor is more realistic, albeit super boring, Fab could be good in the future (long armed shot blockers always get attention), but not going to bring much value back today.
