the Heat own the Celtics? If I recall correctly the Celtics beat the Heat last time they played and without their starting PG. Way to go to the spelling error when you don’t have a logical argument though…

As in any salary cap sports. The financials matter. We can all agree Josh Smith has talent, but does he have enough talent to take around 30% of the cap. That’s the question.

I wouldn’t call it owning but it seems like overall, the Heat are a more talented group. That having been said, a lot of things can happen over seven games.

The Celtics are closing games out (see the Heat game of all things, and the Denver game). They can hang in there with talented teams, and potentially steal home court advantage. While it’s much more of an uphill battle and we have not seen how this group transitions into the playoffs, they have a punchers chance.

Interesting business model but do you see the Spurs shopping around Duncan, Parker and Ginobli as trade baits? No. They are the face of the franchise for this generation, just like Magic Johnson and Kareem is to the Lakers of the 80/90′s. Kobe Bryant is to the current Laker’s.

Seems like Danny Ainge did not learn his lesson from Ray Allen’s exit. I understand, it is just business.

I sort of agree, however that philosophy is predicated on the notion that sentimentality or the emotional side has no impact on player performance and the more tangible side of the game. However that isn’t always the case and trading away strong team leaders like KG and PP for players that may be better on the court won’t necessarily improve the team as they could end up losing their heart and identity.

a lot of ppl are letting the fact he hasn’t been an all star cloud the fact josh smith is above average. and there ARE NOT many josh smiths you can pick from a tree in THE WORLD. seriously, name 5 people who are as versatile as smith outside of lebron james. josh smith is a rarity in this game, and his prowess comes on the defensive end. good coach, good team structure and smith will produce. what’s the big deal? yall don’t like the fact he takes the occasional 3 ? this smith guy is a TALENT.

Before host Mike Mutnansky even finished asking about the rumor, MacMullan scoffed “no way” and elaborated “I remember asking Doc about Josh Smith last year… picture someone rolling their eyes so much that they’re in the back of their head. That’s how Doc felt about Josh Smith.”

I don’t know why Ferry would want Pierce. If he’s willing to trade Smith before losing him for nothing, then getting a 35 year old Pierce who might retire in a year seems kind of pointless.

A month ago, it would have been absurd to suggest Green could be used to deal for Smith. He wasn’t playing well and his 4/36 million contract looked fairly toxic. Ever since he’s really picked up his play and been a very good two-way player. It still seems doubtful that Green and Bass could land Smith but it’s not so farfetched as it was. With the way Green’s been playing, Ainge might be unwilling to deal Green at all.

Is Josh Smith that good? I don’t really like him as a number 2 option or a max deal guy. But who doesn’t get a max contract now.

Jeff Green Courtney Lee and Brandon Bass and maybe a couple draft picks for Josh Smith and Devin Harris would be a good deal

If it makes the team better, you should do it. It would pain me to see Kobe in another uniform, but if it made the Lakers better I would be for it. It’s another sport, but the 49ers of the 80s/90s were one of the best teams in the NFL because of this- Joe Montana in a Chiefs uniform, Ronnie Lott in a Jets jersey, Roger Craig in a Vikings uniform, Jerry Rice in a Raiders uniform… you can’t let sentimentalism get in the way of improving your team. I don’t know if this trade would make them better, but if Ainge feels it does, he shouldn’t let sentiment get in the way.
