I’m all for hyperbole but until he breaks the following numbers, I can’t consider him the most complete basketball player to ever the game (granted you didn’t say “to ever play the game” but that’s how it came off to me):

25,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, 5,000 assists, 1,500 blocks, and 1,500 steals over the course of his career.

I agree 100%.

Although I think Kevin Durant could start putting up these stats too in a couple of years. Durant’s all-around game is improving substantially, and he’s starting to put up rebound numbers, and even assist numbers (even though he;s not the primary ballhandler in OKC that Lebron is in Miami).

And Durant’s offensive game is smoother than Lebron’s, so it’s possible he could match Lebron’s scoring efficiency (he’s not that far behind right now).

True, but shooting 77% and over 30ppg over a meaningful stretch is something truly remarkable, which I don’t think even MJ could even come close to accomplishing. It’s actually totally insane that a perimeter player could do that – it’s something the NBA has never seen and there’s a good chance we will never see a perimeter player do this again.

This isn’t necessarily about the record..obviously no one will be quoting this record in 10 years. But in terms of defining Lebron and what he could do…this stretch of games says it all.

Dude’s phenomenal, no doubt, but this “record” consists of such arbitrarily sought out factors that it smacks of hype-marketing. In twenty years fans may still be debating MJ vs. LBJ, but no one–and I mean NO ONE–is going to be talking about what some player did for six straight games.

Just like Lebron said today on Twitter. “I’m not MJ. I’m LJ”. MJ has more hardware (for now). MJs career is more complete (for now). MJ had better image control (forever). But Lebron is all around better. It’s not even close actually.

Can you imagine trying to stop Lebron with Joe Dumars? Joe Dumars? Joe Dumars was considered the best defensive “force” agains Michael and Joe Dumars was 6’3! Craig Ehlo? Byron Russell? Good luck.

If MJ was playing now, come crunch time he wouldn’t be facing the Dumars/Ehlos of the world. He’d be going against a guy bigger, stronger, faster and (just as if not) smarter.

Remember how LeBron made Derrick Rose look like a 9th grader in the ECFs in 2011? That’s kind of what we’re talking about. And that was when LeBron was considered “disappointing”.

And then when you turn it around, you really want the 6’6 215lb MJ guarding the 6’8 250lb LeBron? You didn’t put MJ on crappy Rick Mahorn, so can you imagine putting MJ on an insanely skilled Rick Mahorn? I think not.

And the passing. And the ball handling (MJ’s was really good too). And the rebounding. And the shot blocking. And the helping….. I mean, it’s not really fair to put Michael Jordan against this guy. Compare MJ to Magic, Larry, Oscar, Kobe, Elgin, and the rest of the guys 3-10, and MJ is the best ever.

The record does not matter. The record is actually second to his real feat: Shooting 66-85 from the field, for 77.6 percent!!! Guys, this is against professional NBA players who are doing their best to stop this guy! I bet 98.5% of you cannot even shoot 60% from the field in a pick up game of basketball let alone by yourself in a shoot around.

Stop comparing this guy to Kobe!!!! There has never been anyone like LBJ EVER in the league. Kobe is was great and fun to watch in his prime but never, never did he even come close to being a COMPLETE NBA player. This is what sets LBJ apart. He is the only player in the history of the NBA to be as close to a complete basketball player the game has ever had the grace to have. Kobe has never had the physical capability to guard 1-5 positions. Like Lebron said, “He’s a scorer, he’s always been a scorer” He’s never been balanced. Kobe’s game was been 100% shaped by Michael Jordan’s way of playing. Lebron on the other hand, is paving his own very unique way of playing the game of basketball that we HAVE never seen before.

Enjoy LBJ while we have him. His talents are rare and it may be decades before we come across similar talent like his again. Let’s not take his achievements for granted because there is no debate, there is no shadow of a doubt, he is THE MOST COMPLETE BASKETBALL player to play the game and he is right now the best basketball player walking on the face of the planet.

I am just happy he plays for the Heat!! =D

You’re being a prisoner of the moment bro. LBJ is dope, no doubt and I’m his biggest fan. But Kobe was real from about 2003-2008 and would give LBJ all he wanted during his prime. Yes, their games are different and LBJ is more rounded but at the height of his athleticism Kobe was tops bar none and his intensity and focus (two incredible important traits amongst successful people of all stripes) were unmatched by his contemporaries.

Not to say LeBron isnt playing amazingly, but this is a pretty benign stat. Who set the record for most games above 25 points and 65% shooting, or 35 points and 50% shooting? Its a sign he is playing great, but there are millions of other stats like this you can put together. I bet he is shattering the record for player with the most points while wearing a headband 2 inches above his ears.

“FUNDAMENTALLY” the best player since MJ !

Number of rings typically are a reflection of TEAM play. One team has a better coach, defense, offense and TEAM chemistry.

Conversely, if this team continues to improve, LBJ’s individual dominance will help his team obtain more rings.

BUT this guy is in a league of his own “FUNDAMENTALLY” – scoring, assists, rebounds and overall versatility / having the ability to play 4 out of 5 positions on the floor effectively!

P.S. He really can dominate all 5 positions, if the opposing team has a smallish or inexperienced center.
