Charles Barkley says Jay-Z isn’t going to draw players to Brooklyn

Charles Barkley says a lot of things that make you think “there’s Barkley being Barkley” but I liked his answer today when asked by Dan Patrick if having Jay-Z as a minority owner of the Nets is really a draw to the team.

No. The most important thing a free agent wants is money. Second, is money. Then we start to get into issues like the market (New York is a draw), the playing situation (teammates and depth at his position) and after that come issues like weather and whatever else. Jay-Z is probably after weather. It’s cool, but it’s not a big deciding factor.

Barkley also talked about who he thinks are title contenders. I think he sleeps on the Clippers and Pacers, personally.

The only people going to the Nets games because of Jay-Z are Beyonce and maybe Jay-Z’s entourage… if he buys their tickets for them.

Way to bring up dates from 09′. He’s done hundreds since then. Tool

      • tampajoey - Feb 11, 2013 at 3:32 PM

        It was 2011. Tool.

Do you want me to list all the cancelled shows from 2012 also?

    • senioreditor2 - Feb 11, 2013 at 4:36 PM

This Looks Like “Watch The Throne” Tour Dates and I Don’t Remember Them Being Canceled

    • tonymontana45 - Feb 12, 2013 at 12:45 AM

Watch the Throne Tour data-2011 tour-really looks like he can’t sell out the concert had. You just made up infromation. Jay-Z hasn’t toured since 2011 and the last “full” tour he did was for his last album Blue Print 3 where he cancelled 3 shows. He did a 4 show tour with Em in 2010 and a show U2. So please get your facts straight and don’t make up stuff.

Below are box office numbers from most of his major shows on the WTT tour, 96% sold out. Yep, no one cares…

      TOTAL 386,445 / 401,244 (96%)

I like Jigga but I think he is looked upon as a Brooklyn Prince and he really isn’t.
      I agree with Charles.
I bet Jigga would like that tweet that read ” NY is under new management” back, it was
creative and attention getting but he was wrong, but the Brooklyn Nets did fire Avery a few
      weeks later.

Hey, is TampaJoey telling the truth about the concerts?

  2. mgscott - Feb 11, 2013 at 2:55 PM

Players probably wont go to the nets because of the overrated players they gave tons of cash to.

  3. houseof666 - Feb 11, 2013 at 3:07 PM

So you are saying jay-z cancelled his tour because ppl didn’t want to go ? Highly unlikely.

Rap in it’s origin espoused :

    1. Poetry over music
    2. Poets / Rappers ability to “FLOW” with rhymes…without a piece of paper/ scripted
    3. Rap / Speak Poetry about items that inspire, Uplift and entertain …as opposed to your car, the club and how many women you pay for.

Based on these 3 basic FACTS about the origins of Rap….Jay Z is arguably the WORST rapper/ Poet in HISTORY !

He (along with another fake poet – lil wayne) hands down, have led to the demise of what was once a great art form of expression.

His bad judgments and management have also led to what will be the demise of the Nets.

They ACTUALLY bought out that MASSIVE Joe Johnson contract, that pays Joe more than LBJ ……HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The Hawks are laughing all the way to the bank !

Tampajoey is quickly becoming my fave poster on here. cracks me up every time

    • tampajoey - Feb 11, 2013 at 4:23 PM

Hey Thanks! But be careful aligning yourself with me as my comments can be pretty polarizing. My ex-gf says I’m easy to hate :)

  6. fearthehoody - Feb 11, 2013 at 4:13 PM

If Jay Z does not get em, will the Illuminati help him?????

    • Mr. Wright 212 - Feb 11, 2013 at 4:26 PM

      Great observation.

  7. Mr. Wright 212 - Feb 11, 2013 at 4:40 PM

Spurs, Thunder, Heat, Knicks, Bulls and MAYBE Pacers.

If the Lakers lose more than five more games, they’re done.

The Clippers aren’t clutch. Sure, they beat a flat and discombobulated Knicks team yesterday, but the aforementioned teams can handle them in a seven game series. Boston is still a sleeper. They’re like Rasputin.

No one wants to go to New Jersey. That team is overburdened with bad contracts, are on the verge of luxury tax threshold if they max anyone else out, and every single guy making $10M or more is vastly overrated and overpaid. There is not even a B-level player on that team (even IF Lopez is putting up A- numbers, who is he fooling when it comes to a grind-out playoff series?)

    • paleihe - Feb 11, 2013 at 5:04 PM

Have you ever seen Chris Paul play?

If you have, you’d know he’s clutch. Below is an article about how clutch he is, and since Paul has the ball in his hands at the end of games, how clutch the Clippers would be (although the article is about CP3, and from last year).

    • akmgiants - Feb 11, 2013 at 11:53 PM

what’s new jersey?????? also lopez has never had a chance like this to prove himself. when do good players become good? when they do. period. bottom line: our owner has a ton of money and we live in what is atleast the greatest city in the americas, if not the world. people will come

  8. thomaskouns - Feb 11, 2013 at 5:30 PM

Jay-Z can’t hurt but gotta love Charles for saying what is basically true but nearly every ex-player would be afraid to say.

  9. dko83 - Feb 11, 2013 at 5:34 PM

As per usual… Charles is spot on.

  10. eflem80 - Feb 11, 2013 at 6:25 PM

Charles Barkley got Avery Johnson fired by going on national television & crowning the very overrated Nets “the best team in NY”….then they played exactly to their talent which about a 35-40 win team by seasons end.
