Still, SOME team out there will be stupid enough to pay up, watch. If Roy Hibbert is a max player and Kris Humphries can make 12 million a year, SOME chump of a GM will give Smoove the ridiculous amout of cash he craves.

Whoa, Josh Smith vaules himself way too high! 45 mill over te course of 3 years is still way too much. That’s the kind of contract that gets you shipped out in an effort to rebuild and save cap space not long after the ink dries.

Acquiring Smith would mean that Faried would have to sit the bench. It would also mean that the Nuggets, in their search for a star, would have to settle for Smith. Masai Ujiri is no fool.

The Hawks have to do their due diligence despite the fact at best they will get pennies on the dollar for him. However I would argue using the number of all-star games a guy has played in as a measure of worth is a waste of time; every year guys get screwed and other guys go because of their names; IMHO Smith has been screwed the most often recently of anyone I can think of having had several all-star level seasons according to PER.
That being said he is no way shape or form deserving of a max contract and the Hawks would be foolish to give it to him. 3/45 is very generous for what he is; a usually excellent defensive player who can fill it up when motivated and playing his game but even after all this time in the league still shows maturity issues and makes very poor decisions with the ball.

Great talent but not all in with the Hawks right now. He had some great break away dunks vs the Bulls but all of then came because he wasnt hustling and trailing the play on defense. Hard to give him max money when he plays like that.

I’m still trying to understand how a player that:
a) isn’t a center
b) isn’t a guard/forward able to creat his own shot and can be expected to average 18+ a game
c) has never made an all star or all nba team

can seriously be expecting to get a max contract. I’m pretty sure that has never happened since max deals exist.
