You don’t move them just for the sake of making a move though. Unless they can get a real nice deal, they might as well ride it out and enjoy giving New York or Miami a scare. This team will not be an easy out for anyone (including Miami) come playoff time.

There is NO way Ainge could get anywhere near to comparable value for either of them. Ainge is stuck for now.

I agree with you kinggw – there is now way this squad makes it out of the 1st or maybe 2nd round (if they don’t end up the 8th seed and have to play the Heat in the 1st round). So with that said, are they happy enough to be simply in the mix? Because after the next 2 years, I doubt that KG or Pierce will be around or very valuable – so strike while the iron is hot.

Silly move by Celtics management. Rondo’s injury has given them a chance to prepare for the future and start the rebuilding process now.

What good does holding on to Pierce and/or Garnett do for the C’s? Its no longer 2008, its time to move on. Just because they’ve gone on a win streak doesnt mean this team can do anything in the playoffs. The beat the Heat at home, but so have the Bucks, Wiz, and Pistons. Other than the victory over the Heat, the C’s win streak was comprised of a win over a Paul-less clipper squad and 4 non playoff teams and all but one of those games was at home.

I admire loyalty just as much as the next guy but Ainge would be foolish not to move one or both of these guys. They dont have enough to take the C’s anywhere so why waste money and draft position on a lost cause. You find success in the NBA by preparing for the future, not dwelling in the past.

Pierce and KG are going to retire as Celtics. There is no contending team that is going to mortage their future to acquire them. Even if a team wanted to mortage the future, it would be virtually impossible for the Celtics to get something that would make them contenders in the near future. Sorry, but trades for Eric Bledsoe doesn’t help the Celtics. Maybe, if a team wanted to give up three 1st round picks.

And the chances of being able to sign a frachise player immediately after trading Pierce and KG are slim to none. Look at how that worked out for the Mavs. The Celtics should focus on what they are doing now, drafting well and making smart acquisitions via free agency or trade. They’ll put out a good product and build a good base of talent to rebuild from when they retire.
