You want to suit up for Orlando? Nelson, Redick, Afflalo all out.

The basketball injury gods are heaping cruel and unusual punishment on Orlando Magic fans.

The Magic will try to break their nine-game losing streak without starters J.J. Redick (shoulder), Jameer Nelson (arm), Arron Afflalo (this will be his fifth game out due to an injured calf), plus bench player DeQuan Jones (ankle), tweets John Denton of the team’s official Web site. All of that on top of Glen Davis being out for the season.

Playing for Orlando will be E’Twaun Moore, Moe Harkless, Ish Smith, probably more Hedo Turkoglu, plus any fan in the first five rows that raises his hand as a volunteer.

I doubt the Redick injury shows the trade talk around him — if you were going to bet one guy to get dealt at the deadline, it will be Redick. His injury would have to be fairly substantial to slow that, and reportedly it is not.

More time for the youngsters is a good thing. The lineup of Ish Smith, Moore, Harkless, Nicholson, and either Vucevic/O’Quinn has potential to be good down the road I think, it has a good mix of athleticism and length. Not enough proven scoring as of yet, though.

Agreed. Let the young guys play. It hurts as a fan but I know most of those guys will blossom. Plus we should get a top 3 lottery pick. 3 #1’s Already

And sitting out the veteran players with even minor injuries is a legal way to get more ping-pong balls in the draft lottery.

Hm. My son is a really good player; he’s a PG, strong shooter from 3, but he can also drive to the basket, and he shoots about 75% from the line. The down side is that he’s only 11 years old, and a die-hard Knicks fan…but for the right deal he’d consider playing for the Magic! Think they could use him? :-D
