There’s lots of guys getting paid very well in the NBA who won’t play. There’s no good reason to have 15 players on a team when you play mostly no more than 10. But, that’s what a union will always do for you. Look at the Teamsters. They’ve been getting folks paid for doing nothing for years!

As long as you’re getting $5M per year plus the buyout from Portland, why wouldn’t you “keep trying” and court the sympathy of those who don’t understand when it’s time to take the money and run.

Roy was a stud. I remember watching his game vs Dallas in the playoffs, where he put the team on his shoulders and carried them to victory in Portland. That was amazing.

Wish you the best, Brandon. But, do your knees and future health a favor, stop trying to come back. Be a coach. Pursue another passion. Just please stop hurting yourself.

It’s a shame to hear, but the writing is on the wall.

After retiring from Portland due to injury, he had a long period of rest supplemented by rehab and the Orthokine (“Kobe Treatment”) in Germany before coming back with Minnesota.

After coming back, he almost immediately was injured, and he’s spent months struggling to recover from the surgery he required early in the season. And all this bad health came after that long period of rest and treatments to prepare himself for a season.

I’d be shocked to see him playing next year after all this

Too bad to hear. I don’t think he will be able to play any more, but I applaud him for trying. He shows a love of the game we don’t always see.
