He did have a craazy wingspan though and big hands making up for his lack of height to go along with a lot of quickness. So it’s not like he wasn’t physically gifted.

People People, everyone needs to stop saying AI is broke because he is not broke by any stretch of the imagination, some months back there was an article it may have been on here but u can google and find it, that many years back some of his financial advisors set up a 30 million dollars trust/retirement fund that pays him 1 million a year for like thirty years it also accrues interest as well and he can take i think less than a third of it lump sum in his late 40s and cant touch the whole sum until his a very old man so in a sense if he does nothing else from now on he will have an annual 1 mil per year income, get your facts straight

he got the most out of his body with his wreckless abandon style of play.
imagine if he had the body of a useless Ed Curry.
AI just can’t get the game out of his system.

I loved watching John Thompson coach him at Georgetown, he was a handful
on the court from the start.

I hope he can get a shot and have fun again.

well…i agree with the guys that say AI as an consultant is a joke. the guy has done very little to show he has the knowledge and insight to be a consultant, well…a consultant in the context i believe AI is talking about. sorry, AI…history will judge you as a “at times turbulent” player…and no…the “practice” thing is not old..its a valid point. sorry, i would not want a guy who disapproves practice.

look…AI has great potential to do other sport related stuff…but working for the organization in that capacity would not fly.

If you’re not from Philly, then honestly shut the hell up about Iverson coming back and consulting. All time greats from every organization fill this role in some capacity. No 76er besides Doctor J can make such a claim. While no one enjoyed the attitude or lack of preparation this city always appreciated the way he played the game. He is still the most popular athlete in this city and he’s always welcome in the 215.

Maybe he will clean up his act.

The past few years should be wake up call for him. This is the first time in his life where his basketball talent alone couldn’t get him what he wanted.

Here’s to hoping that he realizes he needs to change his approach, rather than blaming former coaches for being ‘misunderstood’ or some s*** like that.

Lol. Sounds lovely but exactly how do you teach that? With a chalkboard? He is a wonderful example in that regard, but you are going to pay him to say this? What is he going to do, give a motivational speech once in a while (wait a second, Iverson giving a motivational speech?)?

And unforunately, Iverson also sets some bad examples that you don’t want your young players to learn. Like not putting much effort into anything off the court. Or blowing your money. Or constantly not getting along with coaches and accepting your roles. Or being a cancer in the locker room when you don’t get your way. Remember his speech about coming off the bench? You want that guy to be an example for your team?

I don’t mean to take anyhting away from him – he was an incredible competitor whose image almost transcended basketball. But he is not an example to other basketball players. Unless he’s serious about cleaning up his act, I wouldn’t get near this guy.

Wow, only 4 comments here, yet so many points to make. First, only one of you was able to post your comment without bringing up “practice”. That’s so unoriginal its sad. Second, there is absolutely no way in hell Iverson should be anywhere near a mic! Have you heard him speak? I’m not talking about the ebonics, but his slur. He sounds like he’s permanently stoned! Third, I think people are so blinded by the other things about AI that they fail to recognize that you’d be hard pressed to find another player in the NBA that hustled more than Iverson. He played hard and gave 110% every single game. THAT is what AI brings to the table as a consultant. He can teach the guys the importance of going all out and where it can take you. His Sixers team had no business being in the NBA Finals against the Lakers. He really didn’t have decent talent surrounding him, yet they made it there because of, its a cliche but its true, hustle and teamwork. Personally, I hope this happens sooner rather than later. Allen Iverson is beloved in this city and it is well deserved. Can’t wait for his return!

I think Iverson wants to come in and “coach” PGs. But the coach moniker is something he knows will never stick. And he imagines that being a consultant is less restrictive than coaching.

What he really should do seriously is work on his english and communication skills so that he can take a shot at the booth and give insights into the game. If that knucklehead Barkley can do it then Iverson should make that his goal. This all comes down to Allen wanting to be around the game.
