Stephen Curry rolls ankle, forced to leave game with “mild sprain” (VIDEO)

Jan 28, 2013, 10:05 PM EDT

Golden State finally had some good news on the ankle front — Andrew Bogut returned from ankle surgery and looked pretty good with 12 points and 8 rebounds in 23 minutes — then this happened.

Stephen Curry rolled his surgically-repaired right ankle during the third quarter. It was described as a mild sprain at first, despite trying to convince coach Mark Jackson he could Curry did not return to the game. There is no word yet on his status for future games.

Jimmy Spencer at CSNBayArea.com describes the play.

With five minutes remaining in the third quarter, Curry drove in the key and stepped on the foot of a Toronto’s Ed Davis and rolled his right ankle… Curry continued to play through the pain of the tweak, but it was apparent that it was bothering him. In possessions following the roll, Curry attempted to cut hard within the offense but couldn’t push off the ankle.

Hopefully this is nothing serious. Curry had two off-season surgeries on the ankle and missed a couple of games earlier in the month after rolling it.

It probably goes without saying the Warriors would miss his 21 points and 6.5 assists per game, plus his 45.4 percent shooting from three. Curry was the most obvious snub from the NBA All-Star Game (although tell me who you want to bench for him, Tony Parker, Russell Westbrook or James Harden?).
