Doc Rivers: We need to find right player combos “or we’re going to get some guys out of here”

Doc Rivers is frustrated. And he should be — his Celtics were just plain bad in a loss to the Pistons on Sunday. They shot just 39.8 percent and were handled pretty easily by the Pistons.

After the game, Rivers let those frustrations spill over when talking to the media, reports A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com.

“I gotta either find the right combination or the right guys, or we’re going to get some guys out of here,” said a visibly upset Rivers after the Celtics lost their third straight game. “That’s the bottom line. This group right now, they’re not playing right. It’s in them to play right. But right now they haven’t been either because I’m not getting to them, or they’re not getting to each other.”

I don’t think is a call to GM Danny Ainge to make a move, it’s frustration and an attempt to wake up a roster that is 20-20 and not at all an intimidating defensive force (which is what sparked their run in recent years). The return of Avery Bradley had the Celtics going on a little win streak, but now they have lost three straight again.

Even if this were a call for a trade, there are not a lot of easy moves out there. The problem starts with there are not a lot of tradable assets on the Celtics roster outside Jared Sullinger and Rajon Rondo. Nobody wants Jeff Green.

Ainge has said he doesn’t plan to make a move, but that could change depending on how the team plays in the coming weeks.

The right combination of players are on other teams right now.

Oh, and congratulations to the Ravens! Can’t wait for the SUP-HAR-BAUGHL! Yeeaaahhhhh!

    • fanofevilempire - Jan 21, 2013 at 7:05 AM

Doc, you better find all the players or Danny boy will have to get you outta here.

Doc is trying to bullie his players to play better, oh boy!

  2. progress2011 - Jan 21, 2013 at 2:36 AM

Well, I hate it for Doc BUT the Celtics have to enter into FULL REBUILDING mode.

I mean Garnett, Pierce and Terry are DONE ….unless they are willing to take the league minimum !

No team / GM will take on Rondo….An overconfident, over paid, point guard with a BROKE JUMPER and a FAT MOUTH !

I can’t believe Rondo fixed his mouth to say he was the best PG in the league when he is “SELF CHECKED” !!!

If the Celts front office is not willing to get rid of all them has-beens….then Doc needs to submit his resignation letter. If he is gonna re-build, there are A LOT of teams with less drama he can take from zero to a chip.

    • gepsep - Jan 21, 2013 at 4:33 AM

Well. I agree with the rbuilding, but a guy with a broke jumper? Man, you are quite an idiot!
You probably havent heard that Rondo is leading the league in mid-range jump shooting amongst point gards.
I would want to say that in this case, you are the one who should keep your mouth(or you laptop, keyboard or whatever) shut, cause clearly you are not a wise person.

      • progress2011 - Jan 21, 2013 at 5:39 PM

        gepsep (were you drinking)

That FLICTED, Unorthodox, chunk at the rim is BROKE !!!

I don’t know where you conjured up that category of ” most mid range jumpers” or why you think it’s important.

BUT the real stat that GM’s in the board room that write the checks care about is his overall productivity vs his constant distractions and detriment to the Celtic Organizations respectability and legacy….

RONDO (BROKE JUMPER) IS NOT IN THE TOP 40 IN SCORING SO FAR THIS YEAR….AHAHAHAHAHA !!! But the Point Guards that are far better than him are !

        http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/player/_/stat/scoring-per-game/sort/avgPoints

        Check the FACTS “SON” !!!

      • progress2011 - Jan 21, 2013 at 5:46 PM

Just to help you out….you might be a slow reader after clicking the link ….Rondo is number 71 in scoring !

        AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Almost EVERY relevant PG he claims he is better than, is much more productive than he is scoring the ball.

Last time I checked….The Celts need to be able to put more points on the board !!!!

AAHAHAHAHA….so again, tell me how important you think he is !!!! ahahahahaha

    • andyhr17 - Jan 21, 2013 at 6:45 AM

If you think no one would take on Rondo because of an attitude problem you rare just a complete moron. Yeah. No team would want a 26 year old All Star starter leading the league in assists with 26 triple doubles in his career. DeMarcus Cousins proves on a nightly basis that teams don’t give an f about attitude problems.

      • progress2011 - Jan 21, 2013 at 5:30 PM

        17 yr old andy griffith…

If you are old enough (which I doubt you are older than 17) you may remember a player named Latrell Sprewell or Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf or even Allen Iverson.

        Or here’s one

        Stephon Marbury

All these guys were ran out of the league early, even while they still had game because of their bad behavior ! Marbury and AI have more game than many guards in the league now !

Something your generation must learn quickly, the corporate world will not tolerate your saggy pants, lack of professional etiquette and overall bad behavior !

Rondo puts a few butts in seats…but he is on a very short rope because his attitude is becoming detrimental to the legacy of the Boston Celtics… he is NOT bigger than that legacy the Boston organization is so proud of….I assure you !

I could go on but I don’t want to ruin your youth by slapping you too hard with FACTS ! I don’t wanna be Yo Daddy or nothin.

    • hehateme2 - Jan 21, 2013 at 10:44 AM

ROFL! Ray Allen’s timing was great!

    • purplenurpls - Jan 22, 2013 at 5:24 PM

Hey progress201 you’re the biggest idiot/fool. Look again at the ESPN stats then talk. Why dont u click on Point Guards to filter those stats. Rondo is #2 (behind Parker) in Field Goal %………..You are straight dumb.

  3. badintent - Jan 21, 2013 at 2:43 AM

Doc had been going through his book and every other book looking for speeches to motivate his roster. How about “We have just begun to fight” “the Knicks are who we thougth they were(better team), We draw a line in the sand “Jack and Jill went up a hill for $1.25 each. Jill came down with $2.50 :”

  4. kanemoney - Jan 21, 2013 at 9:55 AM

No team would take Rondo? Lol!

You must not have watched the playoffs last year. He was the best PG in the playoffs last year.

    • progress2011 - Jan 21, 2013 at 5:50 PM

He’s still number 71 in scoring…He simply can’t score enough to help the team.

His little trick play…when he fakes the ball behind his back makes Sports Center.

BUT it still is only 2 points….he is number 71 in scoring !!!

A guy that has the ball in his hands almost every friggin play down the court has to be able to put more points than that on the board !!!

      • andyhr17 - Jan 21, 2013 at 7:27 PM

John Stockton wasn’t a great scorer. Man, John Stockton SUCKED? Is that about right?

      • progress2011 - Jan 21, 2013 at 11:04 PM

        HOW DARE YOU…

You attempt to compare Stockton to Mr. Broke Jumper !!!

Stockton chose not to shoot but when it did shoot…..run to the other end because thats good !

        Conversely,

      • andyhr17 - Jan 22, 2013 at 5:31 AM

There is no current comparison. You’re only knock so far of Rondo is that he’s not even in the top 70 of NBA scoring average. You act like shooting is the only thing that matter for a point guard.

  5. spthegr8 - Jan 21, 2013 at 10:47 AM

Looks like the C’s SUCK also huh Phargis????? Worry a little more about your OLD, SLOW, SORRY A$$ team!!! Just Saying!!

  6. paulhargis53 - Jan 21, 2013 at 11:21 AM

Celtics: currently 8th seed, ahead of the 76ers by about 2 games. 20-20 record.

Lakers: currently out of the top 8 seeds, behind by about 2-3 games.17-23 record.

The Celtics fanbase didn’t crown them champs and say they would have a 70 win season like your fanbase did, BEFORE A GAME WAS EVEN PLAYED.

You tools made your bed by running your mouths, now you can reap the whirlwind.

  7. jimeejohnson - Jan 21, 2013 at 12:50 PM

It was a nightmare type day in sports for New England.

    • badintent - Jan 21, 2013 at 8:03 PM

And it can only get worst, baseball starts in only 3 months. then we get the Sox soap drama to laugh at. Maybe we can trade New England to Canada for Newfound Land, they got lots of ocean Oil !

  8. 00maltliquor - Jan 21, 2013 at 1:58 PM

ROTF LMAO!!! I love it!! I can’t FULLY enjoy this downfall because my Lakers are doing just as bad, but this still brings a smile to my face!

Another lesson, DO NOT **ck with chemistry! I fully believe if the C’s would have made Ray-Ray feel more important and found a way to keep him, they would not be going through this. They wouldn’t be superior, but they sure as hell wouldn’t be .500 either.

    • progress2011 - Jan 21, 2013 at 5:53 PM

Also Perk ….Their chemistry problems started when they traded Kendrick.

Garnet had to go get medicated, sit on the short sofa and everything !

      • badintent - Jan 21, 2013 at 8:05 PM

Yes, it was the Beginning of The End’. Cue the Doors song ,The End”

  9. paulhargis53 - Jan 21, 2013 at 5:25 PM

Lakers 17-23, currently 4 spots out of the 8 seed.
Celtics 20-20 ,currently 2 games up on the 9 seed.

Big difference here is that Celtics fans didn’t place their team in the finals with 70 wins prior to a game even being played.
Deal with it, you made your bed.

Btw, the Celtics are 4 games out if the #4 seed. So yeah, they are in the same boat…idiots.

    • Kurt Helin - Jan 22, 2013 at 8:27 PM

I had plenty of Celtics fans telling me how they were finals bound and were going to beat Miami. Don’t underestimate them.

  10. ahmedovic8 - Jan 21, 2013 at 7:27 PM

He may be number 71 in points but he’s number 1 in assist with 11+ a game. So basically he provides 13 + 22 point -we’ll consider all of them are twos but we all know he at least dishes out one or two 3s- that’s 35 points he’s contributing a game..

  11. themagicfanguy - Jan 21, 2013 at 7:31 PM

Progress, what he meant is that Rondo’s mid-range jumper is falling at a higher percentage than nearly ANYONE in the league. You have never actually PLAYED basketball before, have you? Someone who HAD played would know that it’s a point guards job to facilitate the offense, not score. What a coincidence? Rondo LEADS the league in assists!
So just in case you missed that first part, he LEADS in mid-range field goal percentage. You know what that means? That his jumper ain’t broke and you’re a moron.

  12. doublezero74 - Jan 21, 2013 at 9:08 PM

Hey all you losers out there, we New Englanders have been busy celebrating 7 championships in 10 years, to notice how petty and jealous you all are. Unprecedented success in sports that has never been duplicated. Hate on but know that we’re enjoying all of it. Losers
