Yea and KG isn’t dragging down one of the worst offenses in the league? His defensive impact has been overstated this season and Bosh’s frankly has been understated. Bosh isn’t a great rebounder but he does a solid job on all types of big men in the low and high post.

Fans do get it. It’s you, Mr. Helin, that don’t get it. If you don’t like the rule, talk to the NBA, no the fans. For those who think that only Asians or Asian Americans vote for JLin, let me remind you that there are many non-Asian fans for JLin too. I find it amazing and annoying that all these so called journalists keep trying to show how undeserving JLin is if he got voted in. If you want to talk about undeserving players for the all star game, any fan can give you a long list of the names based on whatever reasons. So stop lecturing and insulting JLIn’s fans.

Say what you will about Lin as a player, (and yes, I know, he’s having a tough year so far and is still developing his game) but he’s a classy guy and a team player always concerned about winning. I’m glad Houston got Harden so Lin doesn’t have to carry all the pressure and has more time to develop into a legitimate starter.

Look at Magic Johnson in the 1992 game. Magic retired in 1991, but the fans wanted him to play one last game so he did.

…But obviously this situation is different because Magic was one of the best players of all time, whereas Lin would start in the all-star game because of his cultural heritage.

Thats the larger point…most real fans (not casual ‘watch on tv fans) understand that its a popularity contest, etc BUT..

Its the fact that All Star appearances are used in contract negotiations and HOF debates so…it does carry some weight overall. Guys like Bernard King have arguments against them bc of All Star appearances, etc…

So while the true hoops head knows its gabbage (spelled correctly GABBAGE), its still a bogus way to select the guys who play. Fans will watch regardless bc its the best in the world playing..ppl aren’t going to tune out bc Lin or some average but overhyped played doesnt make it.

I still get burned up about Rod Strickland averaging 12 assists a game and not making it one year!

Not sure if he deserves it but he’s an infinitely more preferable of a choice than Garnett. Really it should be Noah or Chandler.

Fun fact – there are several players of Chinese descent who have played in the NBA. Only 1 (Yao Ming) has been named an All-Star, and he happened to be a very good player when healthy.

Yi Jianlian was a star in China before coming to the U.S., but he played poorly in the NBA, and never was voted an All-Star….because he wasn’t very good.

It’s not “some fans” that dont’ realize he shouldn’t be an all-star, tellt he truth. It is asian people. The same reason Yao Ming was a starter all those years he didn’t even suit up. They voted for him because he is of asian decent, and no other reason

Just another example how racism is alive an well in the world today, it’s just not called it unless it’s white people doing so

Totally agree. The issue I have is when people measure greatness by stating how many times the player has been an All-Star.

IE: “He should be in the HOF, because he’s an 11 time All-Star.”
So in that context, if J. Lin gets voted an 11 time All-Star, does that mean he’s a great player when all is said and done?

PS. If Bosh gets in over Noah or Lopez, its all a farce.

When are people(writers, Charles Barkley, etc) going to get it through their thick skulls that the All-Star starters are NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE NBA. They aren’t supposed to be the guys playing the best in the NBA. They aren’t supposed to be the most funcamentally sound…the ones with the most championships…the ones coaches think are the best…the ones leading the league in the statistical categories.

THE NBA ALL-STAR STARTERS ARE THE 5 PLAYERS FROM EACH CONFERENCE THAT THE FANS WANT TO SEE START THE FRIGGING GAME. PERIOD!!!!!

I don’t care if the guy hasn’t played a game all season, if he gets voted in he plays if he can because it’s for the fans!!! The “guy you think deserves it” can get added to the roster by the players and coaches.

BUT THE FANS VOTE IN THE STARTERS. STOP WHINING ABOUT IT!!!!
