Pau Gasol practices, “optimistic” will play vs. Heat

The NBA made a wise decision regarding concussions — if you want to play after one you have to be cleared by a league neurologist, not the team doctor. If you want to know why that is a good idea, why not ask the team doctors that cleared Robert Griffin III and Rob Gronkowski to play in the NFL playoffs.

But Gasol went through 3-on-3 drills on Wednesday and said he was “optimistic” he would be cleared to play of Thursday night when the Lakers host the Miami Heat, the team reports.

And he could come off the bench, adds Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News.

I think Mike D’Antoni likes the idea of having Earl Clark stay in the starting lineup and having Gasol come off the bench to sub out Dwight Howard or Metta World Peace, depending on what matchups dictate. But for it to fly in the locker room it has to be Gasol’s idea — Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash are still Gasol backers. So you say it’s temporary and if it goes well it’s something Gasol would suggest. He’s a team player.

But whether he starts or comes off the bench long term, Gasol will be back soon. And he has to find a way to fit and produce while trade rumors swirl around him. That is another in the long line of challenges the Lakers must deal with to keep their playoffs hopes alive.

    Please don’t play Pau

      If Jesus was a baller…

He would look alarmingly similar to the picture above…

YET.. He wouldn’t be a laker… That franchise is too sorry for him. The lakers are about to drop gasol in order to invest more payroll in their fleet of personal trophy shiners. If you aren’t gonna win a title any time soon you better make sure your past trophies are awfully shiny!

Every laker fan on this website: ” how about all the laker haters shut the hell up, you wish your franchise had as many titles as us!”

Get shining boys. Because there is potential for your trophy case to collect some dust

Ps: if you all you lakers fans and la residents didn’t leave at half time every game, maybe your bogus team would finish out a game!

        Oh this is so fun…

Jesus would look similar to which picture? Gasol’s? Yeah right. The skin color of the people of that region during Jesus’ time was black as coal. The invaders from the east turned the complexions lighter and lighter as the years went on but Jesus probably looked closer to Antwan Jamison than Gasol.

I think you are on the wrong website

He’s on the wrong website because he’s right? Why even say something ridiculous like that about Jesus anyway if anyone with common sense knows it’s far from the truth and then spewing that whitewashed lie on a basketball site in the first place. Upt is on the wrong website for replying but youre the one that mentioned it here first

eh…you are a fool to think the Lakers are heading towards long-term oblivion. yeah, you got us this year. the Lakers do suck…but to think they will continue too? well, thats just plain “Te’o stupid”.

      • captainwisdom8888 - Jan 17, 2013 at 12:25 PM

Hahaha im just having fun basking in the lakers misery. Props to stadix for properly putting up a reasonable argument rather than just talking out of ur rear end, which is what most lakers fan do when posed with a challenge

      • captainwisdom8888 - Jan 17, 2013 at 12:27 PM

And Jesus is white by the way. I double checked

It’s not a bad idea to bring him off the bench. Clark (or Hill if/when he’s healthy) add a different dimension to the starting lineup, just like Pau adds a different dimension (talent) to the second unit.

  3. conjecture101 - Jan 16, 2013 at 6:23 PM

The inconvenient truth is that Pau should only be playing 18-20 minutes on this team. If D’antoni so much as considers pulling either Clark or World Peace for Gasol, consider the Lakers season over.

    From a non laker fan…….

I’m really hoping they do well because I have a pair of tickets 8 rows off the floor when they meet my Clippers in April. I’m hoping that one game will pay for half my season but who’s gonna cough up $2000 to see a Laker team that has been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs?

I wanna see them have a chance at the 8 seed when they face my Clippers, sell my tix for 2 large and then see the Clippers dismantle them and crush any hopes of a playoff picture. That would really make my year!

  5. stadix093 - Jan 16, 2013 at 7:09 PM

I have been going to Lakers games for years and years and years and I have never once seen anyone leave at the half. Truth is, the tickets are so expensive that anyone who has paid to be there, really wants to be and would be crazy to leave early. The team ain’t great now, but unlike many fans I can say I have faith in the organization. Go Lakers.

    • captainwisdom8888 - Jan 16, 2013 at 7:48 PM

I applaud anyone who shows genuine loyalty for their team. My comment above is simply a reflection on the fans of la and what would be a consensus view on their “love of the game.” This is consistent with all of LAs major sports franchises

      • stadix093 - Jan 16, 2013 at 8:56 PM

It’s simply not true though. Not at Laker games anyway. I’ll admit I’ve seen people up and leave Dodger games early but a Lakers game is an event. That costs some money and takes some planning man. I’ve can say with certainty I’ve never seen a single person around me leave early at a Laker game. I mean they are so bad on defense you want to leave just to stop the pain, but we stay. Unless the person saying that has been to several games I don’t believe it. I mean Bill Simmoms the largest Laker hater alive said he wouldn’t let his daughter attend a Lakers game becuase he’s afraid she’d enjoy it too much.

Bring Gasol from the bench permanently. It balances the team. We’ve got four primary playmakers in the starting linep and zero off of the bench. And Earl Clark is a better match for stretch fours.

  7. mytthor - Jan 17, 2013 at 12:01 AM

You can still get Gasol 30 minutes a game, 15 as a howard backup and 15 with howard on the court. He can be the playmaker and play with Kobe when Nash and Howard are out of the game – we know he and Bryant can make it happen together
