The reason they can’t win the championship is because they don’t have a back court to keep up with the Thunder , Clips and Spurs . Mike Conley versus ,Westbrook , Paul or Parker is a losing cause . They probably have the best front court in basketball with Gay , Gasol and Randolph , but after that there is a severe drop off on their bench versus the top three .
The Griz have new ownership and the team is not selling out the arena at home . Next year management owes a combined $ 150 million to just Randolph and Gay . Luxury tax is too much and the market is too small . So either Gay or Randolph leave or maybe both for younger players at a lot less money . This is the last year for the Griz to compete at a top level .

I don’t read much into regular season games predicting postseason outcomes. Which is to say, I don’t think they can beat a healthy Clippers or Thunder in seven games.

I don’t understand why they would try to trade Gay? The guy is talented and he’s key if the Grizzles are serious about making a real run in the west.

To me, it is all about value. Rudy Gay is not valuable because his contract is too high and his production is too erratic/inefficient.

Not sure why they have a “very slim” chance at title contention. They have wins over several elite teams this year and can compete with any team in the league, thanks to a stifling defense. They have given up over 100 points just 3 times this season, and 2 of those were on the 2nd night of a back to back. Their offense has been a little erratic but the defense will keep them in every game.

Here is their record vs the top teams in the league.

Oklahoma City (1-0)
Miami (1-0)
San Antonio (1-1)
Golden State (2-0)
New York (1-0)

The only elite team they haven’t beaten is the Clippers, who beat the Grizzlies on opening night. The Grizzlies have a chance to even that record out tonight in Memphis though.

As a Mavs fan I’d like for Mark Cuban to go after him, although I don’t think him and OJ Mayo got along when they played together.

I say the Celtics should grab him, even if it means getting rid of Pierce.
