Gasol out for Lakers still, Earl Clark to start against Thunder

Hey Earl Clark, really good game for the Lakers against the Spurs the other night. Well done.

Your reward: Cover Kevin Durant Friday night.

The Lakers need to start winning games fast if they want to even make the playoffs (they need to go 30-17 the rest of the way to get to 45 wins, and that may not be enough in a deep West) and it doesn’t get any easier Friday night with Durant, Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder coming to town.

And the Lakers get to face OKC shorthanded — Pau Gasol met with doctors again but was not cleared to play, tweets Lakers.com reporter and television sideline reporter Mike Trudell. That after a concussion caused by an inadvertent JaVale McGee elbow last Sunday night. Also out is Dwight Howard with a torn labrum (he will be re-evaluated next week) and Jordan Hill (hip).

So the Lakers are trying this lineup to break their five-game losing streak:

The idea is to have Kobe Bryant on Westbrook. The concerns there for the Lakers are Kobe getting in foul trouble from and aggressive Westbrook and the energy he has to expend on defense and what that might do to his offense. This season the Lakers have an offensive rating of 113.6 point per 100 possessions when Kobe is on the court (that would be the best in the league) and 99.7 when he sits (that would be 22nd in the league). The Lakers can’t win without the very best of Kobe.

And of Earl Clark, too.

    Forgotten in a month…

What really hurts lakers tonight is the lack of a shot blocker (Howard and Hill). The key to the game will be to some how some way keep westbrook from driving to the rim every play.

Man, the Lakers would’ve owned the Thunder if Gasol was healthy!!!!!

By that I mean this will be our excuse for another Lakers loss at the hands of a faster/younger team with chemistry and a coach whom the team follows the orders of.

Disreguard Kobe getting burned all night on defense, disreguard the offensive minded coach of the Lakers getting outscored in every way by the Thunder, disreguard the fact the Lakers are clearly not in a panic.

Ok, now that we have our excuses in order, it should be great to watch my Lakers get smashed to the surface by the Thunder, who as it turns out, is a really fun team to watch, especially when they play a team that still gets more hype than them without deserving any of it.

Anything short of a blowout by the Thunder (by the third quarter) is the Thunder taking the day off.

      wtf is your team?
you always bitchin about Lakers, stf already!

      • chargerdillon - Jan 11, 2013 at 6:13 PM

my team IS THE LAKERS, hence why i continue to bitch about them, because they would give any fan of that team reason to bitch about them.

at least i keep it real and call a spade a spade

Earl Clark will do fine. And by fine I mean be scored on almost at will, just like everyone else who tries to cover Durant.

Well that certainly wasn’t the lineup I envisioned when the season started.

Well, at least they found a use for Earl Clark after the trade… Foul fodder.
