J.R. Smith throws it down on Pacers’ Ian Mahinmi (VIDEO)

Jan 10, 2013, 9:25 PM EDT

It’s been a brutal first half in Indiana for both teams offensively, but J.R. Smith provided a momentary reprieve from the darkness with this thunderous slam dunk over Ian Mahinmi of the Pacers.

Smith explodes to the rim from beyond the three-point arc, and seems to have the rim in his sights from the moment he puts the ball on the floor. Mahinmi comes over late to try to contest, and catches Smith with the body giving him the and-1 opportunity.

We won’t be too hard on J.R. since he provided essentially the lone highlight of the game’s first two quarters. But it’s worth noting that he finished the first half just 3-of-11 from the field in almost 19 minutes of action.

He can have a single play, it’s the W that matters. These 2 teams are fighting for positioning, what should they care about a single highlight?

You know what’s not going to make the highlight reel… The Knicks going 7 scoreless minutes in the 4th qtr. The Pacers D deserves some recognition once you get done with focusing on individual plays.

The Pacers took the game and Ian had some solid input down the stretch.

Dude stay on topic. The post is about the highlight. And we aer without Melo, Felton and were without Camby for the entire 2nd half, and STILL don’t have Shump. You win by 5 without four pivotal players. Congrats on hitting the lotto.

And don’t even TRY to say that Granger offsets that.

you don’t think that Melo would have covered that 5 points.
I like the knicks chances better than your pacers chance.

you are right JR does this at least once a game, that was a sweet move and dunk.

      are you drunk?
