If LeBron is going to at least nominally play the 4, he has to act like a 4 and get his 6'8" frame in there and fight for the ball. Part of Miami's rebounding problem is that everyone on the team wants to get out on the break and make the highlights, and no one is home to get the ball to start the break. Rebounding just isn't glamorous enough for them.

The heat aren't winning enough 50/50 battles, plain and simple. It's not guaranteed that they can just turn it on come April, but I think there's a good chance that they do.

Lebron is even better this year than he was last year. Reports of Wade's demise are greatly exaggerated- he is shooting a career high FG% and has improved week to week. Remember that a year ago the Heat started with a fast paced all out attack, eventually wore down and adjusted comes playoffs. I wouldn't bet against them doing the same thing this year. They will cruise to a top 2 seed in any case, and staying healthy remains the regular season's #1 priority.

That's why I hate the Thunder so much. They are a really good team but they just don't have big men who are talented enough offensively to dominate the heat down low. I think the spurs, grizzlies, and lakers would all have beaten the heat last year, but the Thunder had to play them. If the thunder come out of the west again this year and hand the heat another championship i'm going to go crazy.

cantonbound13:

Varejao is much better now than he was then. For instance, his offense was non-existent 5 years ago, but now he can do some stuff with the ball besides for just finishing plays. Also, his rebounding numbers are better now. Back then, Verajao was all energy and youth, no skill.

But agreed, Varejao was still an excellent rebounder and relatively good defender back then. He was the only legitimate playoff starter on that team.

Anyways I digress - how can you possibly argue this point? Cleveland went from being the team with the most wins in the NBA to being the team with the most losses in the NBA. How much clearer does it get? What other evidence do you need? Are you going to make some assinine point about Ilgauskus leaving?

Derron is that you?
"understandably taken his foot off the gas"?

Let me tell you an absolute fact.
If the Heat had the best record in the NBA we wouldn't be reading a weekly rant from James about his frustrations. And you wouldn't read jack about lack of rebounding.

IMO James came into this year "hell bent" on NOT winning a scoring title. "hell bent" on showing he can play a different "Magic Johnson" type of game. Which he can, it's just that the Heat would be winning more if he played to win, rather than play to with with a particular style.

I watch the games, I see times where the Heat are floundering and James refuses, to take the game over. It's those times when the best player in the world needs to be the best player in the world. Be selfish, get the win.

Jordan did it
Kobe does it
All the greats did it

This year James just doesn't seem to want to step up in those times. And that's on him.

Kobe does it
All the greats did it

This year James just doesn’t seem to want to step up in those times. And that’s on him.

Eh? So you want James to do more (he's already having one of his best statistical seasons of his career) but then acknowledge that he's the best? Your mindset is shared with many others, and just proves that no matter what Lebron does, it will never be enough.

He played with a damn good rebounder in Cleveland, named Varajeao. Then again people would say it was LeBron & no one else on that team.

I don't even care for LBJ, but that whole statement was garbage. If anything, he's worn out from the olympics plus their playoff run from last year. He's understandably taken his foot off the gas a bit and still dominates. This isn't about him, this is about rebounding as a team. And James is the only one on that team that rebounds so your point is completely unfounded.

Are you saying Lebron shouldn't worry about setting up teammates with good passes and open looks? Don't pass the ball the Ray Allen for an open three?

His passing and being like Magic is part of what makes him the best player on the planet (along with his strength, speed, shooting, driving, defense, rebounding, and everything else). He's always played that way, and he always will.

And fans are frustrated with LBJ's all of a sudden lack of killer instinct. Refusal to take games over and constant whining about a situation he set up himself. I can't stand watching James this season, he can do so much more but doesn't, and that's fine to a degree, turn it on in the playoffs and nobody can say jack. But STFU LeBron, you're wearing the ring for this year. It was James who wanted over rated and soft Bosh, the reason the Heat are not dominating is not lack of rebounding, it's because of James worrying about others and being Magic, rather than just being the best player on the planet. Which he is.

Just wanted to point out that LeBron is having his best rebounding season of his career. So it's not him - maybe Bosh, at close to 7' (and the starting Heat center) should be grabbing more rebounds. I'll be the first to tell you how important Bosh is to the offense because he can spread the floor with his shooting ability. BUT, it's a 2-way game, and rebounding is a major factor for defense. If you grab the rebound, the other team doesn't have the ball = best defense possible. I think the addition of Keyon Martin would have helpled, but looks like the Knicks may pick him up. Too bad...
