I guess that depends on how small a percentage one considers “key.” From the linked article, here is how the arena financing proposal was going to work: $241 million from the city, $150 million from the state, and a paltry $35 million from Comcast-Spectacor. That’s a bit like buying your teenager a brand new car and having him note what a big deal it was that he managed to pay for the air freshener.

Where was Virginia Beach going to get $241 million? And they were willing to spend that kind of money to attract the Kings?! With the Maloofs STILL being the owners?! Wow, did the taxpayers ever dodge a bullet on this one.
