Report: Carmelo Anthony had to be restrained outside Celtics locker room after Knicks loss

Things got heated between Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett during the Knicks’ home loss to the Celtics on Monday, and apparently, Anthony wanted to continue the battle after the game was finished.

The two players received double technicals for their continued jawing with just over nine minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, but they were going at it verbally both before and after the officials finally stepped in.

Anthony was still heated afterward, and multiple reports had him outside the Celtics locker room looking to continue the conversation.

From Al Iannazzone of Newsday:

MSG Network reported that Anthony was outside the Celtics’ locker room after the game and had to be restrained by security and some teammates. Mike Woodson wouldn’t comment on the report, although he did say: “As the game wore on, we just let things get to us a little bit. We can’t let that happen.”

Anthony, who left without speaking to the media, was hot in the fourth, and not in a good way. He continued to play physically and jaw with Garnett. Said Woodson, “I’m going to defend Melo, our player and our team. In the heat of the battle, you got to hang in there and you got to keep playing.”

There’s no doubt the league will investigate Anthony for these alleged actions, and if they find credence in the report, a fine and/or suspension will be on the way.

Zach Randolph was fined $25K earlier this season for similar actions against the Thunder’s Kendrick Perkins.

Go get some shots up Melo. You’ll need it after your 6-26 night, Yikes!

    • saint1997 - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:16 AM

sad little Celtics fan. How’s that record going for you?

      • nycalldayz - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:30 AM

How’s that loss? Your Knicks team lost to an underman Celtics without their best player in Rondo.

      • saint1997 - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:38 AM

Firstly, I like the Celtics I’m just talking fact, you are not even above .500. Secondly, you want to talk about undermanned? STAT is not healthy yet, Shumpert isn’t there, Rasheed isn’t there, Felton isn’t there. You’re bitter because your team isn’t good and Melo is playing like an MVP. But congrats on beating them without 3 starters

      • mrcuret - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:51 AM

Not as sweet as it will be when we sweep the Knicks out of the first round of the playoffs… Again!

      • badintent - Jan 8, 2013 at 1:29 AM

first Perkins goes off on Zach, now KG yip yap with melo. Must be a punkass C thing this year, God knows their play and roster ain’t gonna cut it. At the All-Star game we can have trash talk contest with Gary Payton , MJ and Reggie as the judges. As for the “Hood BS”, most of the guys I played against in the 80’s are dead or in jail. So much for tough macho. Showers with 5 guys in jail not the same as NBA showers, eh South Boston ?

      • mjdkid100 - Jan 8, 2013 at 10:47 AM

As long as Carmelo is a baby and cant handle trash talk, the Celtics will continue to get into his head. Garnett knew exactly what he was doing. And by the way, nothing matters until the postseason. Celtics have an old team, who are going to cruise along the regular season and then try to turn it up. Theyre not that good, but neither are the Knicks. Heat win the east anyways.

    • Mr. Wright 212 - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:17 AM

The one night he’s been off all night, FOH clown. A normal night by him and we win by 10.

      • Mr. Wright 212 - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:17 AM

        *all year.

      • mrcuret - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:54 AM

Stop making excuses dude, the Celtics own the Knicks. Period!

      • saint1997 - Jan 8, 2013 at 5:25 PM

don’t worry about these stupid Celtics fan, we’ll sweep them come first round when we are all healthy

    • dko83 - Jan 8, 2013 at 2:46 AM

Guarantee you the Knicks are TERRIFIED of playing Celts in playoffs. We’ll see.

      • bahia2 - Jan 8, 2013 at 8:43 AM

Mello —- Just another thug from NYNY !!!

      • jolink653 - Jan 8, 2013 at 1:05 PM

Lol is that a serious comment? Why would the Knicks be scared of seeing the Celtics? When Felton comes back he’ll torch Rondo (provided he doesn’t push another ref, player or throw another ball into the crowd) and Shumpert on the wing will lock down Pierce, leaving Melo mismatches all over the court and for Felton/Kidd to exploit the size advantage on the pick and roll with Chandler inside, not to mention the Knicks have a much, much better bench than the Celtics and probably the best 6th man in the league, outside of maybe Jamal Crawford, and will have the best 7th man once Amare gets more games to round into his old form…Face it, when the Knicks are fully healthy and on their game, the Celtics have no shot of beating this team in the playoffs

      • dko83 - Jan 8, 2013 at 1:11 PM

I’m sorry, I stopped reading when I saw “When Felton comes back he’ll torch Rondo.” Lost all credibility there.

    • fanofevilempire - Jan 8, 2013 at 7:25 AM

the great Celtic team that won ONLY one chip, will go down as thugs…….

good thing Rondo wasn’t there, I bet a fight would have broken out..

      • mjdkid100 - Jan 8, 2013 at 10:51 AM

        Celtics: 17

        Knicks: 2

There’s some history thats gone down for ya…

  2. beagle11 - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:10 AM

Knicks should just hire Marty Collins to be a punching bag for Melo to get his frustrations out before games!

  3. thelakeshow562 - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:12 AM

dont mess with KG he’s HOOD

    • Mr. Wright 212 - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:21 AM

      On what planet?

      • acdc363 - Jan 8, 2013 at 7:52 AM

Apparently whichever planet Melo lives on

  4. saint1997 - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:15 AM

You would’t have guessed there was a fight judging on the photo, they look like they are hugging :)

  5. nycalldayz - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:15 AM

Behind all the drama this was a great regular season game. As for Garnett and Melo. Garnett is a trash talker and he got in Melo’s head. Melo fell for the bait.

  6. nygdriveforfive - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:19 AM

Why is Melo pretending to be tough. Back peddling from Nate Robinson does not help your case.

  7. if life fails - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:25 AM

I was wondering what KG said that makes Melo go crazy? is it ‘there’s no i in TEAM, but there’s ME in melo”

  8. nygdriveforfive - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:29 AM

Don’t get me wrong I would run 9.79 fast away from Nate but 6’9/230 Melo will never live that one down.

  9. atteckus - Jan 8, 2013 at 12:33 AM

Carmelo’s lucky he was restrained, because if he hadn’t been, he’d have left the Garden on a stretcher. KG ain’t no super tough guy. But he’d toast Marshmallow Anthony 2 milliseconds.

These teams hate each other.. and I LOVE it!

  12. nycalldayz - Jan 8, 2013 at 1:42 AM

MVP? That’s not the example u want to send Melo. Smh.

  13. foolproofflorio - Jan 8, 2013 at 1:54 AM

Mrcuret, thats funny youre so sure the celtics are making the playoffs

  14. cameltoehoe - Jan 8, 2013 at 2:05 AM

Did KG really call Anthony a ho? I think being called a ho is a complement!

  15. thraiderskin - Jan 8, 2013 at 2:28 AM

That wouldn’t even be a fight, Carmelo v. KG, Anthony just needs to keep this thing all about basketball… for his sake.

  16. pricejustin24 - Jan 8, 2013 at 2:33 AM

KG is about as “hood” as Kurt Helin. Gfy

  17. 6stn - Jan 8, 2013 at 2:51 AM

NBA is getting more like pro wrestling every day. Expect written knee-jerk apologies tomorrow.

    • jcmeyer10 - Jan 8, 2013 at 9:49 AM

If it was wrestling they would write into into the next episode (game) but this is just what old school basketball is all about. These guys ain’t buddy buddy after the game and Stern secretly loves it.

  18. supremekingz - Jan 8, 2013 at 3:33 AM

I’m sick of KG. somebody needs to body slam his scrawny a$- er butt

    • andyhr17 - Jan 8, 2013 at 10:18 AM

If it were that easy and he was really as fake of a tough guy as people refer to him on here don’t you think it would’ve happened already in the last 17 years?

      • infectorman - Jan 8, 2013 at 3:10 PM

        @andyhr17:
either you are 100% correct, or the rest of the league are just a bunch of p*ssies

Anyway, you ever see NBA players fight?
90% of the time it looks like 2 grown men who have never been in a jam in their lives. It’s quite humorous the majority of the time..

  19. 00maltliquor - Jan 8, 2013 at 3:35 AM

He can meet him at the flag pole in Houston at the All-Star game before they tip-off if he’s still feelin froggy.

    • gostlcards5 - Jan 8, 2013 at 3:13 PM

(from neither a Knicks or Celtics fan)…

Won’t work…KG the skinny ass-hat can hide behind the flag pole.

  20. andyhr17 - Jan 8, 2013 at 5:40 AM

Surprised to see you commenting here, Bozo. I guess I can understand, with your Lakers in even more of a bad way than the Celtics, you have to take out all of your frustration somehow. Internet is great, isn’t it? It let’s you act like an ass, call people name, all while acting like the names that you are calling people.

  21. spavs412 - Jan 8, 2013 at 7:55 AM

So happy a real mans sport is back.. A sport that allows you to get thar heated and drop ur gloves to settle the differencecc

    • thesixersbench - Jan 8, 2013 at 11:11 AM

Mmmm….. so macho…get on his level, fellas.

  22. ebrownwareagle - Jan 8, 2013 at 8:06 AM

Not sure what people are talking about… But ahhhh I just watched the old Knicks Nuggets Brawl, and Melo had a Serious Right Hand… Ask Jeffries how it feel after he laid him down

  23. solomon151 - Jan 8, 2013 at 8:58 AM

KG is all talk, Melo isnt the first one to call him out.Remember Charlie Villanueva called him out for calling him a cancer baby?? For all of you that think Melo is a punk or scared you need to check into his backround. I’m not a knicks fan but I know Melo. He may be a ball hog, not that great of a teammate, But a punk or chicken he is not. And who the f is Nate Robinson?/ DO you really think a 6’9 beast like Melo is afraid of a 5 nothing Robinson?? Please!!!!

    • jcmeyer10 - Jan 8, 2013 at 2:00 PM

Actions speak louder than words on Melo being afraid of Nate Robinson. Just sayin’.

  24. musician0785 - Jan 8, 2013 at 11:30 AM

KG does not want that fade….just go ask Anthony Peeler

  25. cookie2117 - Jan 8, 2013 at 11:53 AM

I know it sounds cheesy but New York couldn’t handle the truth lmao
