I’ll never understand why some people are so convinced there’s a giant conspiracy to ensure that one of only 4 or 5 “Winner” franchises will win the title every year…In what world does the NBA benefit from having the same teams win every year? It’s just so stupid

That’s cool info. Did not know that. However, it’s still pretty dumb that the NFL can’t just keep a $12,500 fine and leave it at that until the next CBA comes along. Most fines you run into in real life don’t adjust every year.

Side note, but the reason for the weird numbers for the fines issued by the NFL is that they choose a nice round number for fines (like $12,500) with each Collective Bargaining Agreement, but that number increases by at an agreed rate, like 5%, per year.

That means after the new CBA is signed, what starts as a $12,500 fine ends up $13,125 the next year and then $13,781 the year after.

Only positive I can see is the NBA actually fines in round figures. If this were the NFL, the fine would be $14,875 or something weird like that. But that rule is quite obviously to keep the refs from being rushed by irate players and coaches after a game. Handing the guy a videotape wouldn’t seem to warrant any fine at all. Next time, I guess Ferry can have it FedExed to the league offices.

Yet another example of Stern holding someone else accountable (Ferry via a fine) for his own incompetence (sad state of NBA officiating). Must be nice to be horrible at your job, yet have no chance of being fired since you do your own annual performance review. As long as the owners make money, that’s literally the only measurable Stern is held accountable for.

The fine isn’t for approaching the official. The fine is for forcing the league to notice and take action against someone from one of David Stern’s Designated Winner franchises (Miami, Boston, Lakers). The nerve, the gall, the unmitigated audacity!
