Lin’s in a premium position. Every time someone votes for Lin, they don’t vote for Kobe or Chris Paul. That’s hard to do. When Yao was around, he was basically in a race by himself. Duncan was in the forward voting most of the time, and after him there really wasn’t much else to vote for. Of course there were deserving players every year, but no one that would draw the attention of the casual “fans” voting. They’re both big names, but there are more guards to vote for today than there were centers to vote for back then

Ming was from china whereas Lin is Korean-American. Not only is Korea far less populated than China but it is less interested in basketball as well. Not to mention being multi-racial may lose him some full Korean voters.

Actually I’m surprised J.Lin isn’t doing better. Yao would be a starter on every all-star team if he had both feet amputated. Obviously him choosing to leave NYK hurt his image a little but I was still expecting him to be a lock based on the number of asian fans world wide.

Pretty crazy drop off for the eastern conf. front court – 600k from 2nd to 3rd.

Who cares that the all-star team is a popularity contest? The fans are voting in the players they want to see in the game, so let them get what they want. It’s obviously bs, Blake Griffin a starter and zach randolph not even close to making it? come on.

The NBA awards are overrated, especially the MVP award, so it’s not fun to get so worked up about it.
