Dwyane Wade responds to suspension, says he’s ‘far from being a dirty player’
Dec 28, 2012, 4:27 PM EDT
Getty Images Dwyane Wade was suspended one game by the league for kicking Ramon Sessions in the groin during Wednesday night’s game game against the Bobcats.
It’s pretty clear the play was intentional on Wade’s part, especially when viewing the replay in slow motion. Wade said otherwise, however, via his Twitter feed Thursday night.
Interestingly enough, Wade also addressed the increasing perception that he’s becoming a “dirty player” at the same time.
I’m far from being a dirty player + my intent was never 2 kick Ramon Sessions. I just reacted to the contact that I got from him….
— Way of WADE (@DwyaneWade) December 28, 2012
It’s impossible to know whether or not Wade truly believes any of this, of course, but it’s likely that he does. Players are pretty insulated from the so-called real world, and do so intentionally for the most part to avoid the distraction that can come from a barrage of outside noise from fans and media alike.
After this first message, Wade sent one more, this time invoking his responsibility as a father to try to prove that his actions were in fact unintentional.
More than anything, I think of my boys watchin me be4 retaliating 2ward any player. Im moving 4ward + ready 2 get back on the court in MIL.
— Way of WADE (@DwyaneWade) December 28, 2012
It’s tough to envision Wade’s children flashing before his eyes right before extending the leg that caught Sessions.
Wade may very well have the best intentions when competing at the highest level. But his on-court actions have shown a body of work that says he lets emotion get the better of him at times, and when that’s happened, it hasn’t been pretty for his opponents.
